The theme of the book of Daniel is God’s sovereignty! The kingdoms of this world will rise and fall, but the kingdom of our God will abide forever! As we begin our study of the book of Daniel, we find both history and prophecy in the first chapter of Daniel. Babylon in the Bible is a symbol of a wicked world system that is anti-God and anti-Christ. While the city of Babylon died long ago, the spirit of Babylon lives on today. Babylon today is about two kingdoms colliding, one led by the “gods” of Babylon and the other led by the God of the Bible. What impact does Babylon have on your life?

We've Been Invaded

Leaders have vision to see not merely what is but what will be. Vision is seeing what God sees and seeing future realities that may currently seem impossible. Moses’ leadership was limited because of his sin, and he wasn’t allowed to enter the Promised Land. Our sin and unbelief cannot limit God’s plan for eternity, but it can limit God’s plan for our lives personally. As we evaluate our lives, is there anything that would cause God to limit your leadership and influence?

Seeing Eternal Realities

Good leaders are good followers. If you rebel against following God-given leadership in your life, it can lead to destruction. Korah and his band of men pridefully stood against Moses and Aaron, who were appointed by God to lead the people of Israel. Their rebellion was ultimately against God’s authority, and their destruction was a warning to the people of Israel. If you want to be a wise leader, humble yourself and submit to God.

Rebellious Followers

It’s your decisions, not good intentions, that define your destination. Moses sent twelve spies into Canaan to gather intelligence on the enemy. Ten of the twelve came back with a desire to “preserve” their lives instead of being willing to “give” their lives. Consequently, they and an entire generation of Hebrews would all die in the wilderness. But Joshua and Caleb decided ahead of time to believe God no matter what they saw. True leaders are willing to lay down their lives to follow Jesus no matter the cost. What keeps you from laying down your fears and crossing over to the promised land in your life?

Unbelieving Believers

God will sometimes lead you to a place where the odds are against you so He can show you He can save you. At times, being right in the center of God’s will is having your back to the sea, a situation from which there is no escape. Like Moses, in the Red Sea moments, Jesus alone is sufficient to save you—and He will.

God has given us all unlimited potential to do the impossible to advance His kingdom. Moses could have refused God's calling because of his limitations, but God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. God is calling all of us to the impossible, and He moves miraculously when we attempt impossibilities.

A life of obedience is marked by making one godly decision after another. It's godly obedience that brings godly favor. Instead of safety and security, God is calling us to choose faith and trust. Where are you today in your obedience to God?

Christmas brings us more than a wish. It reminds us there is HOPE, and our hope is built on the certainty of Jesus Christ who will save His people from their sin. He was sent by the Father as the Savior of the world.

Our real Christmas wish is for Peace, and God uses simplicity to accomplish the extraordinary! All human suffering is because of human sin, and God’s answer was to provide a Savior for us. Jesus is our Passover Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.

The response of those who have received God’s gift so freely is to love and live generously. Those who know they’ve been forgiven of much, love much. Those who know they’ve been given much, give much. We can choose the insanity of generosity because Jesus chose the insanity of Calvary.

The wonder of Christmas begins with the wonder of creation. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of a King who will establish a Kingdom without sin and without end! It's about God’s redemption of a Kingdom and the restoration of all Creation. He has reversed the curse of sin, and one day paradise lost will be paradise regained.

As Christians in a world system that is increasingly hostile to the Gospel, we must aspire to be the salt of God's word and the light of God's love. It's the truth of God’s Word that preserves society from moral and spiritual decay. Salt is the truth we say, and the light is the love that we show. People aren’t changed by merely what we say but rather what they see.

The Church that is Salt and Light in an Age of Ideological Idolatry

The Church is the household of God. But if each member selfishly uses their unique gifts for themselves instead of contributing to the Church, it results in unhealthiness and weakness. We must use our gifts faithfully and we will see God’s Kingdom grow.

Our real hope is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Christians, our first allegiance must be to the Kingdom of God and the multi-ethnic family of God. As Christians living in modern America, we have all been politicized, and we must renew our minds to think biblically, not politically.

When it comes to the invitation to join the movement of God, He doesn’t want something from you, He wants something for you. God's plan for the church is to live open-handed and outward focused and for His followers to be open-hearted and obedient.
