For the first time ever, Adventures in Movies takes their act on the road. Danny and Blake keep the crowd happy at the Sun City Fright Fest while Nathaniel handles things from deep in the heart of Texas. Before we head out to the Sun City Fright Fest, we had some things to get off our chests. It's the spooky season and we had to talk about the plans we have for the month. How well does this one incorporate the lore of the original? We also discuss whether a person has to see the first movie before diving into the 2021 version. We talk about the kills in Candyman and the interesting direction the film took with them. Our opinions were varied and it may surprise you who enjoyed what the movie presented and how it was done.Race was a big factor in the original Candyman and it remains so in the latest incarnation. The question is not if the discussion about race would be in the movie. The question is, would it be done effectively. Episode 135: Candyman Special Edition

We finally got it right! When we started Fantasy Horror Month, we figured it would be a breeze. As it turns out, there is plenty of dark fantasy, but it is difficult to find actual fantasy horror. We found one and it is a doozy. The Head Hunter is bloody and gory, but not very violent. It values storytelling payoff over actual action. The cast is comprised of one man, one girl, and lots of severed heads.  We also talk about Nikola Tesla's secret notebook and the dangers of the wrong people finding it in Final Frequency.Spencer is not the type of movie we would normally talk about on this show, but its new poster is too beautiful to be ignored. Someone on the show also learns what Princess Diana is not her Christian name. We also talk about Denis Villeneuve's reasoning behind limiting how Dune can be watched.We have covered some interesting (re: bad) movies the second half of 2021. Final Frequency is in the odd space where it is not so bad it is good, while also never being truly terrible. What you do end up getting is a movie that makes no sense, villains without any motives, and one of the strangest LARPing scenes ever.The Head Hunter is a nice escape from the world of deadly earthquakes and Lou Ferrigno Jr. The final entry for Fantasy Horror Month is the tale of a father who is looking to get revenge for the loss of his daughter. Episode 134: Fantasy Horror: The Head Hunter/Final Frequency

Who would have ever thought how difficult it would be to find fantasy horror? We certainly did not. This week we leave Oz and head back to Camelot. Our focus is one of its most famous characters. We visit some of his lesser known adventures, including the times he fought Medusa and he stopped King Arthur's son from getting intimate with his sister. We review our first true crime documentary. While Finding Kendrick Johnson may sound like others from the genre, it goes into unexpected detail about something few others have.We have talked in the past about franchises that have fallen from glory. Demonic came out this week and it did not go over well with critics and audiences. Director Neill Blomkamp seemed to be on top of the world after District 9. Over a decade has passed, and we are still waiting for him to live up to the promise he once flashed.Finding Kendrick Johnson is a true crime documentary with a powerful message. It is one that rings true throughout the country. We grapple with the film's mystery, narrator, and its graphic content. We were incredibly torn when discussing this documentary and were really not sure how to tackle it.Fantasy Horror Month continues with a look at 2009's Merlin and the Book of Beasts. The title may sound unfamiliar to fans of Arthurian legend for good reason. There are not many stories involving Merlin, King Arthur's daughter, and incest.
