Rap to Riches: The Music Industry of Atlanta

Ever wonder why art is the way it is today? In this episode, we go back into the beginnings of human culture and the birth of art through to the early 1800's. Art is broken down to its role in society and the question of "What Is Art?" is asked. This episode looks at art through the lens of power structures in art and the roles of the artist in the past.From cave paintings to alter pieces, we look at the reasons for different civilization's needs for art and their ways in which artists existed in those times and their roles in society.Jan van Eyck's "Ghent Alter Piece" is juxtaposed with Diego Velazquez's "The Surrender of Breda" in how different ideals are displayed and where society's focus on art shifts within the two artworks.We finish the episode off with a look at the Realism Movement and Gustav Courbet as a leader in pronouncing individualism with an introduction into Impressionism.

Public events and cultural events like music festivals, art auctions, and even buying paint at the store generates resources that people are able to live from. We also discuss the ownership of art today and who is collecting it, why someone collects art, and their reasons for becoming patrons of artists.

This is the first episode of Art Bread Rising. We discuss the ways in which we look at art in the year of 2020. From massive sculptures to museums and how they bring in their audience, ABR goes into the modes of viewing art. The rise of digital media and constantly looking at our smartphones to high profile galleries exhibiting massive installations by internationally renowned artists. Everyone has access to the internet and with that advantage, many artists have broken down the barriers to the art world with full force to show their works and life styles. In addition to looking at art, we talk about the ways in which viewers interact with art, the roles of galleries and museums, and what it means to be able to show artwork.
