This episode finds us on Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure to take a ride on the Pixar Pal-A-Round.  This attraction actually has two descriptions on the Disneyland Resort website.  The first, for the standard version says: Take off on a classic Ferris wheel adventure high above Pixar Pier.  The second, covering the swinging version of the ride reads: Climb aboard for an exhilarating Ferris wheel adventure that swoops, swings, and slides—high above Pixar Pier. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the standard version a Slow Ride and the swinging version as having Small Drops. Before we get a spectacular view of Disney California Adventure, here are five fast facts about the Pixar Pal-A-Round. 1.  The Pixar Pal-Around is a Disney California Adventure, opening day attraction, having opened with the park on February 8, 2001.  When it opened it was known as The Sun Wheel.  In 2008, it was renamed Mickey’s Fun Wheel.  And on June 23, 2018, it was renamed once again to the Pixar Pal-A-Round. 2. The original inspiration for the Pixar Pal-A-Round is the Wonder Wheel found at Coney Island in New York. 3. The Pixar Pal-A- Round rises above Pixar Pier a towering 150 feet or 46 meters. 4. The Pixar Pal-A-Round is unique for a Ferris wheel in that 16 of it’s 24 gondolas ride on interior rails that created a, sometimes wild, swinging as the wheel rotates. 5. Each gondola features the image of a different Disney and Pixar character. Spot favorites like Woody, Buzz, Dory, Nemo, Mr. Incredible, Joy, Sadness, Lightning McQueen and more. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Galaxy’s Edge to experience the Pandemic Shortened version of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.  The Disneyland Resort website describes the attraction saying:  Join the Resistance in an epic battle against the First Order on this exciting new ride. Guests must be 40” or taller in order to ride this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Thrill Ride that is Dark, Loud, Scary and has small drops. We did cover Walt Disney World’s Rise of the Resistance back in episode 88, but here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance. 1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened at Disneyland on January 17, 2020. 2. The main Rise of the Resistance ride vehicles utilize Radio Frequency Identification technology that allow it to navigate the attraction without a track. 3. When guests enter a room on the star destroyer that seeming is packed with AT-AT vehicles, there are only two that are physically present.  Strategically placed mirrors make it seem as if there are more. 4. The blaster fire that is simulated throughout the attraction use arrays of LEDs to give the illusion that the blaster fire is traveling through the air. 5. When Disneyland reopened after being closed for the pandemic, the ride experienced was shortened to comply with local health guidelines.  The pre-show experience featuring Rey and BB-8 is cut to minimize guest’s time indoors. Before we ride along in the monkey cage, here are five fast facts about Casey Jr Circus Train. 1. Casey Jr Circus Train was a Disneyland opening day attraction opening with the park on July 17, 1955.  However, the ride was closed the next day and remained closed through July 31st, 1955 for safety inspections. 2. Casey Jr. Circus Train takes guests on a tour of Storybook Land at a much quicker pace than the Storybook Land Canal Boats we covered back in episode 33.  Along the way you see several famous sites from Disney films such as Frozen, Peter Pan, Snow White and more. 3. Casey Jr is a two foot (610 mm) narrow gauge internal combustion powered railroad designed by Arrow Development. 4. The sleigh style train cars were part of the King Arthur Carrousel before that attraction was modified to be all horses. 5. Actor Ray Templin provides the voice of the Ringmaster on the attraction. During regular operation, the attraction features one of seven songs sung by Mater and voiced by Mater’s voice actor, Larry the Cable Guy. 3. The ride features 22 baby tractors for guests to ride on. 4. In the past, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree has received holiday makeovers!  During Halloween it's renamed Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree and Mater's Jingle Jamboree during Christmas.  These makeovers include holiday appropriate music as well. 5. The ride’s queue area features several posters and recreations props that have been featured in the Mater standalone cartoons over the years. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we head to Frontierland in Disneyland to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Streak through a haunted gold mine aboard a speeding train on this thrilling coaster-style ride.  Guests musts be 40” or taller in order to ride and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Thrill Ride that is Dar, Loud and has small drops. Before we chew on some dynamite, here are five fast facts about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. 1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad opened at Disneyland on September 2, 1979. 2. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland is built on an area of the park previously occupied by the Mine Train through Nature's Wonderland Attraction.  The town that you pass at the very end of the ride is the town of Rainbow Ridge and it used to overlook the loading platform of the Mine Train attraction.  Many of the attraction’s animatronic animals are also repurposed from Mine Train through Nature’s Wonderland. 3. The attraction features 6 trains that all have different names.  Those names are I.M. Brave, I.M. Bold, I.B. Hearty, U.R. Fearless, U.B. Courageous and U.R. Daring. 4. Several of the attraction’s train sound effects were recorded and used in the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. 5. The trains can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour (or 56 Kilometers per hour) during the 3 minutes adventures. Before we hit the rapids, here are five fast facts about Grizzly River Run. 1. Grizzly River Run is a Disney California Adventure opening Day attraction.  It opened with the park on February 8, 2000. 2. There are a total of 32 rafts on this attraction and each raft can hold up to 8 people. 3. Grizzly River Run’s rafts are designed to spin as they hit the drops on the attraction especially the ride’s big drop which is 21’ tall. 4. The legend of Grizzly Peak, which the attraction is built around, is that a giant Bear named Oo-soo’-ma-te was turned to stone by A-ha-le the Coyote to watch and protect the mountain.  It is Oo-soo’-ma-te’s growl you hear as you ride the ride. 5. In 2019, the safety spiel was updated and voiced by the Disney animated character J. Audubon Woodlore, with Jeff Bennet providing his voice. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - A classic Disneyland dark ride attraction got a revamp while the park was closed for the pandemic.  Come along as we take a ride on the newly renamed Fantasyland Attraction, Snow White’s Enchanted Wish. Recorded on May 18, 2021. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we head back to Disneyland after over a year to experience the newly updated Snow White’s Enchanted wish! The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying: Embark on a magical ride into memorable scenes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes it as being a slow ride that is dark and loud. Before we head off to the forest, here are five fast facts about Snow White’s Enchanted Wish 1. On January 7, 2020, Disney closed the attraction Snow White’s Scary Adventures (which we rode in episode 18) for an extended refurbishment. On December 3, 2020, it was announced that the attraction would reopen with the new name Snow White’s Enchanted Wish. And on April 30, 2021, the attraction opens when Disneyland was allowed to reopen after being closed due to the pandemic. 2. The revamped attraction now features animated projections taken directly from the original Snow White film. 3. While there were always animals featured in the attraction, Imagineering added more than three dozen animals during this refurbishment. Squirrels, Rabbits, Deer, Birds and, of course, a raven, can be spotted as guests move through the ride. There are more birds in the attraction than any other kind of animal. 4. In order to create some of the figures for the attraction, Disney brought back veteran sculptor Theresa Miller to sculpt some of the Dwarves faces and animals for the reimagined attraction. 5. In addition to new LED lighting, projection mapping and new animated figures, Snow White’s Enchanted Wish also features a few smells as guests move through the attraction. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - To spin or not to spin, that is the question as we head to Walt Disney World to ride Magic Kingdom’s Mad Tea Party on this episode of Attraction Checklist! Recorded on October 29, 2016. TRANSCRIPT: Let’s spin on over to Magic Kingdom to ride Mad Tea Party.  The guide map describes this attraction by saying: Spin around and around in a giant teacup.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill level correctly describes it as a spinning ride. We covered the Halloweenified version of this attraction in episode #104, but since this is the regular version, here are a few more facts about Mad Tea Party. 1. A ride on Mad Tea Party lasts one minute and thirty seconds.  Though it may seem longer to those who get motion sick. 2. The patterns on the tea cups were originally designed by Imagineer Mary Blair. 3. Versions of Mad Tea Party can be found in all the Disney Parks around the world with the exception of Shanghai Disneyland.  But they have a similar attraction themed around Winnie the Pooh. 4.  Despite the rumors, the purple teacup does not spin faster than the others. 5. Strap in!  This episode we’re headed to Epcot to ride the much maligned Orange Mission of Mission: SPACE.  Located in Future World East, the guide map describes this attraction by saying: Experience NASA-style training with a simulated space launch. We covered the updated 2017 Green Mission of Mission: SPACE on Attraction Checklist episode 37.  So here are Before we ride, here are five fast facts about the Orange mission of Mission: SPACE. 1. Though it was updated in 2017, the Orange Mission of Mission Space can trace its intense history back to the ride’s opening in 2003 as that when the original version of the Orange Mission debuted.  The updated version recorded for this episode debuted on August 13, 2017 which is the day this audio was recorded. 2. The cost to build the attraction was $100 million Dollars. 3. When the ride opened in 2003, several NASA austronuats were on hand for the celebration. 4. Mission: SPACE’s Orange Mission exposes riders to forces up to 2.5Gs, more than twice the force the gravity of Earth’s Surface. 5. Mission: SPACE replaced the iconic Epcot attraction Horizons.  There are small tributes to the classic attraction in the form of Horison logos in the queue and during the pre-show. Time has come to answer the age old question…it is a Small World After All?  And to help us figure out the answer we’re going to head to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World to ride “it’s a small world.”   The guide map describes this attraction saying: Take a boat tour Around the globe.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level accurately describes it as a slow ride.  Fast Pass plus is available for this attraction. Before we set sail, here are 5 fast facts about “it’s a small world” at Magic Kingdom. 1. “It’s a small world” is an opening day attraction, opening with the park on October 1, 1971. 2.  The Magic Kingdom version of “it’s a small world” differs from other incarnations of the same attraction around the world by having it’s queue area, including the clock face facade, completely housed in the show building. 3. As you travel through the attraction, you will hear the Sherman Brothers Song “It’s A Small World” sung in 5 different languages. 4. “The song, “It’s A Small World” was sung for the attraction by a church choir in London, a school chorus in Rome, Italy, TV performers in Mexico City and kids from Tokyo and Burbank, California. 5. The ride features almost 300 Audio-Animatronic dolls.  Except for skin tone, eye and hair color and clothing, the dolls faces are all exactly the same. Bonjour friends!  On this episode of Attraction Checklist we head to Epcot to experience the, pre-update, version of Impressions de France. The guide map describes Impressions de France by saying: Experience the grandeur and charm of of the French countryside through film.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and since it is a film, there is no Thrill Level listed. Before we ride, here are five fast facts about Impressions de France: 1. Impressions de France is one of the few remaining Epcot opening day attractions, opening with the park on October 1, 1982. 2. The super widescreen film was directed by Rick Harper and written and produced by two time Academy Award Nominee Bob Rogers. 3. The film features the music of classical French composers in a score written and arranged by Buddy Baker.  The score was recorded on a prototype recorded from Sony making it the first movie with a digital soundtrack from beginning to end. 4. Impressions de France holds the Guinness World record for ‘longest running daily screening of a film in the same theater.’ 5. We joined up with Star Command back in episode #107 when we rode Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters and now it’s time to reenlist as we ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The guide map describe Space Ranger Spin by saying: Fire lasers to defeat Zurg in this shooting gallery-inspired game.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes this as a Spinning, Slow Ride.  FastPass+ is available for this attraction. Before we ride, here are five fast facts about Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. 1. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially opened in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland on November 3, 1998. 2. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin replaced the Dreamflight attraction.  A few small pieces of Dreamflight remain.  The hyperspace tunnel is original and two chickens from Dreamflight got an alien makeover and can still be spotted in one of the attraction’s scenes. 3. Frank Welker provides the voice of Emperor Zurg in this attraction and Pat Fraley voices our hero, Buzz Lightyear. 4. If you look closely at the batteries featured throughout the ride, the batteries, Zurg is trying to steal, you’ll notice they say Made In Glendale on them.  A nod to Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, CA. 5. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - Magic Kingdom - Attraction Checklist #112

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's head back to Epcot to revisit Living With The Land that received some upgrades since we last rode! Recorded on August 16, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: This episode we check out an updated attraction that we’ve been on before.  Back in episode #42, we rode Living with the Land at Epcot’s Land Pavilion.  In august 2019, the attraction received a few updates.  There aren’t really 5 new fast facts I can tell you about the attraction except that in August of 2019 the theater section of the attraction, where you go through the barn, is now sporting all new HD video and a slightly different narration which you will hear in this episode. Also, starting in 2019, the attraction received a holiday overlay as part of Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays.  This overlay called Merry and Bright Nights at Living with the Land, features twinkling lights and fun holiday decorations spread throughout the Living with the land attraction.  We’ll have to go back sometime and record that version as well. Living With The Land 2019 Update - Epcot - Attraction Checklist #111

This episode we take a drive on Disneyland’s Autopia!  The Disneyland website describes Autopia by saying: Put the pedal to the metal on an unforgettable road trip along a miniature motorway.  Riders must be 32” tall to drive their own cars and the Thrill Level describes Autopia as being a Slow Ride that is Loud.  FastPass is available for this attraction. Before we go and bump the car in front of us, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Autopia. 1. Autopia opened with Disneyland on July 17, 1955. 2. As the attraction was being designed, early versions of the name included the word ‘freeway’ as the ride was answering the question of what freeways would look like in the future.  It was Walt who suggested the name Autopia, a combination of the words automobile and utopia. 3. Before the park opened, the Autopia cars were tested without bumpers and the test cars were almost completely destroyed during testing.  Bumpers were then added. 4. Autopia cars have a top speed of 7 miles per hour. 5.  In 2016, Honda became the new sponsor of the attraction, replacing Chevron.  In 2017, Honda introduced the humanoid robot ASIMO and his friend Bird who would appear in scenes around the attraction.  Bird is the first character created for Autopia. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we hop aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad for a Grand Circle Tour of Magic Kingdom.  The Walt Disney World Website describes this attraction by saying: Steam ahead on a vintage train for a grand circle tour of Magic Kingdom park. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction. Before we hop the train at Main Street, here are five fast facts about the Walt Disney World Railroad. 1. The Walt Disney World Railroad opened with Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. 2.  When the park opened in 1971, guests could only take a Grand Circle Tour as there were no stations other than Main Street.  The Frontierland Station opened on May 1, 1972.  That station was demolished and rebuilt in 1990 to make way for Splash Mountain.  The third station, then called Mickey’s Birthdayland Station opened on June 18, 1988.  That station was also demolished, rebuilt and demolishes again and the current Fantasyland Station opened on March 12, 2012. 3. The four locomotives that work the line all have unique names.  They are the Walter E. Disney, the Lilly Belle, the Roger E. Broggie (named after the man who oversaw the construction of the Walt Disney World Railroad, and the Roy O. Disney. 4. During a normal day of operation, each locomotive uses 25 gallons of fuel and 200 gallos of water per hour. 5. On a normal day, there are only two trains running.  On a busy day, three will run on the line.
