এখানে কবি সুকান্ত ভট্টাচার্য এক সৈনিকের জীবনকে সুন্দরভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন। সৈনিকরা যেমন ঘর থেকে অনিশ্চিত সময়ের জন্য চলে যায় দূর প্রান্তে, অনেক সময় বিভিন্ন যুদ্ধক্ষেত্র। সেখানে সৈনিকের সারাদিনের ভাবনাচিন্তা শুধু যুদ্ধকৌশল, আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র পরিচালনা এইসব নিয়ে থাকে। কিন্তু সৈনিকও একটি মানুষ যার মাঝে মাঝে মনে পড়ে যায় শিখরের কথা অর্থাৎ নিজের বাড়ির প্রিয় মানুষের জন্য মন ব্যাকুল হয়ে ওঠে। বহুকাল যোগাযোগের অভাবে তাদের বর্তমান অবস্থা পর্যন্ত তারা জানতে পারে না। সব যুদ্ধ শেষে যখন সৈনিকরা ঘরে ফেরে হয়তো সব সময় তাদের বীরত্বের কথা বলা হয় না কিন্তু একটি মানুষ সব সময় তার আগমনে উদগ্রীব থাকে সেই সৈনিকের 'প্রিয়তমাসু'।
