This reading was designed by Voices On The Bridge, a poetry initiative in Pontypridd. The theme of the evening was trauma and healing. There is no one size fits all where trauma experience is concerned – Nor is there one pathway for healing there are many – out of necessity we each seek our own path.And healing takes time, time to heal in its own time – a clock that has its own rhythm - there is no one pathway from the darkness into the light!Writing and poetry can be a pathway into the light – the door opens and the light – the light is always there – tho’ finding it might take time! Episode 8 - From the darkness into the light

“Letters to the Earth” is a Cultural Response to the Climate and Ecological Emergency as part of Culture Declares EmergencyAfter a month long open call for submissions, where over 1000 Letters were received from the public across the world, including submissions from Yoko Ono, Kate Tempest, Nick Drake and Rebecca Solnit, A Book of Letters was released for global performance during International Rebellion, from 15th to 28th April, 2019 as part of the call that governments tell the truth about climate collapse and act accordingly.This reading was produced in the midst of the fortnight of international rebellion against ecocide lead by the Extinction Rebellion.The event was recorded on May the 27th, 2019 at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

Episode 5 - ‘Creature’

The third reading is designed by Wales PEN Cymru and is part of a project to support Kurdish linguistic rights. In this podcast, you will hear Kurdish, Zazaki and Welsh musicians and poets who came together to create an evening of songs, folk tales and poetry and to demonstrate a shared struggle for linguistic rights. The event is entitled, in 4 languages: “Pia Vınderime - Piştgiriye - Efo’n Gilydd - Standing Together” You can find the programme, which includes all the lyrics and poems in their original languages and in English, together with historical information and artists’ short biographies here. Kurdish musician and activist Ali Sizer, Welsh singer/songwriter Geraint Rhys and poet clare e. potter are joined by women from the Kurdish Community Centre in Newport. Ali Sizer, who is a singer in the Kurdish dengbej tradition and saz player, worked with the women from Newport to give new life to traditional songs in Kurdish and Zazaki. 

Episode 3 - Pia Vınderime - Piştgiriye Efo’n Gilydd - Standing Together

The second reading is designed by Tim Bromage, drawing inspiration from the "The landscape in word..." He invited three artists to present text that resonates with them. The only guideline is that the text relates in some way to landscape. The artists are AJ Stockwell, Freya Dooley and Fern Thomas. The event was recorded on May 23rd, 2018 at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

Chapter Readings are a series of events celebrating the beauty and significance of the written word, spoken aloud. Each month, an artist or a group of artists will design a literature-inspired reading created from a single theme or idea. Mackenzie invites artists to join him for the evening. All pieces are read by their authors. The first one is a short story by Ronnie Pope; “Work back from blindness” . Second short story is by Peter Brooks; “A Celebrity First”, the third piece is by Meltem Arikan, an excerpt from her play ‘HON’, Pınar Öğün joins Meltem Arikan to read the text. Phillip Mackenzie reads 4 pieces, all written by himself and this is the first time he shares his writing. The last piece of the evening is by Eric Ngalle Charles, “Death on the 3rd floor”.
