It is Thursday. We have two Charlton comics in front of us. How about the twelfth episode of Charlton Comics Throwback? In this episode, Vance and Jay take a look at "Test-Pilot's Nightmare" by Joe Gill and Steve Ditko, which first appeared in Space Adventures #39 (April 1961). This is a fairly non-memorable adventure of Captain Atom. Next the boys turn their attention to Abbott & Costello #13 (February 1970). Captain Atom helps (sort of) his friend Gunner and his narcoleptic son. Cap flies around, blasts space birds, and generally confounds the readers with questions like, “Why?” or “How?” and “Did somebody say donuts?”

Wait, haven’t we already introduced Captain Atom? Well, yes and no. Call this episode of SNGPOD our “throwback Thursday” episode. I have a special guest on and we talk about the origin of the “original” Silver Age Captain Atom from Space Adventures #33. The story (written by Joe Gill with art by the legendary Steve Ditko) is titled “Introducing Captain Atom,” and it, well, introduces Captain Atom.

On February 4, 2016, FKAjason and his son Vance began to review the old Charlton Comics featuring Captain Atom in their special “Throwback Thursday” episodes of the Silver and Gold Podcast. Their plan is to cover all appearances of Captain Atom before his purchase by DC Comics. The show eventually became it’s own entity, Charlton Comics Throwback where they review the aforementioned Captain Atom comics as well as other Charlton gems.
