In 1871 a dairy cow named Daisy knocked over a lantern on Catherine O’Leary’s farm, setting the entire city of Chicago ablaze. An estimated 300 people perished in the fire and left thousands homeless. Catherine spent the rest of her life being blamed for the fire.
