Bio: As Vice President within the LPL Financial Research department, Mr. Hoody is responsible for overseeing traditional manager due diligence and sustainable investing. He oversees the team that is responsible for researching and recommending third-Party equity and fixed income managers that are used throughout LPL’s various platforms, including centrally managed models. He also oversees LPL’s sustainable investing efforts, including manager research, model management, and advisor outreach. prior to joining LPL in 2015, Mr. Hoody was a research analyst for a registered investment advisor (RIA) where he performed manager diligence, asset allocation studies, and portfolio construction for 401k and pension plans. He began his financial services career in 2004 with BB & T where he performed manager diligence and portfolio construction and has also performed privately held company and intellectual property valuations while at KPMG and Dixon Hughes Goodman. Mr. Hoody is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds a BS in political science from Clarkson University, an MA in international affairs from American University, and an MS in finance from Johns Hopkins University.

Kevin Ely, Managing Director at Cambridge Associates gives his insights into his firm. Cambridge is an anchor of anchor meetings, everyone knows them as an Endowment Foundation Consultant. It has also transitioned their business into more of an advisory role in recent years. Kevin resides in Arlington so when you are marketing in the Baltimore / D.C. area keep him in mind. He is co-head of the research team with responsibility for U.S. equity manager coverage, specializing in sourcing and evaluating public equity investment managers. He has two decades of experience in investments and capital markets, including more than fifteen years in manager research. Kevin’s investment career began at Cambridge Associates in 1999. After attending graduate business school, he worked in corporate finance consulting for Duff & Phelps, and he was an equity analyst covering specialty retail stocks for Wachovia Capital Markets. He returned to manager research at Cambridge Associates in 2008. In addition to his manager research work, he is a thought leader within the firm for research efforts in equity portfolio structure and manager evaluation.

Kris Nelson begins by sharing that Russell Investments is a volume provider and there is a fee discussion when you call on them. However, there’s a distinction between Russell’s consulting business and their asset management business. Kris explains that if you are going to work with them on the asset management side through a sub-advisory capacity, you have to have your strategy available in model delivery. Kris details how to navigate through ESG and SRI as well as diversity and inclusion at Russell, all incredibly important to the firm. She also reveals that Russell is always searching, and while there are no set needs but they are constantly looking for talent.   Bio: Kris is the Director of Investment Research for the Global Equities team at Russell Investments, and her primary responsibility is to evaluate and recommend investment strategies which are most likely to generate returns in excess of the relevant market indices and peer groups. More specifically, she is the “rank owner” for all Global and non-US value products. As well, she is the Head of Engagement within the firm’s Proxy and Engagement Committee and dedicates time to supporting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) research and investing. Kris joined Russell Investments five years ago after nearly fifteen years on the “buy side” investing in US stocks with a focus on small cap and growth.
