This week's "Descent Into The Archives" features some classic Ed Farmer appearances on the Steve Dahl radio show from 1996 to 2006. There was no better person than Farmio, and he will be forever missed, not just by Sox fans, but anyone who ever knew him. Rest in peace, Brother.

It's Steve and Garry's first Friday broadcast on WLS FM 95.5 (actually 94.7). They're still a little gun-shy after being whacked at WLUP. Chuck Evans offers Steve a free gym pass and Steve doesn't like it. Did you know there used to be an iced tea season? Maggie Brock is the newscaster, and it's always great to hear from her as Steve and Garry deconstruct radio together.

Curb Your Enthusiasm's Richard Lewis is in studio. His upcoming tour is "The Magical Misery Tour". He Photoshopped a girlfriend that wasn't working out right out of a Bill Clinton Oval Office picture. He has a LOT of notes. Tom Thayer drops by the studio. Curb Your Enthusiasm (Richard Lewis)

As we finish up the Steve and Garry Christmas Eve show from WLUP FM in December of 1992, things just get more and more "Christmassy", if that's even a word. Bruce Wolf and Larry Wert join the proceedings, and Steve is undaunted in his Xmas advice giving. SIDE NOTE: Luisa is the one who gave Garry the tapes of the shows Steve did while Garry and Cindy were on their honeymoon. Garry and Cindy took those tapes to Larry Wert's house, had a pizza in the basement, and that was the end of Steve and Garry. Happy New Year!

Christmas Eve 1992 WLUP FM (Pt.2)

Steve and Garry used to be tight with Jay Leno back in the day. He would play Zanies on Wells Street. He would sometimes bring in Fireplace Inn ribs, and just generally made everybody laugh. Then he got the Tonight Show, and there was some distance. Sad... Steve has always suspected it's because he and Garry did that week of late night on CBS. Not that they were any threat to The Tonight Show, but Jay did send them an oddly mean note. They got a nice one from Arsenio, though.

Jay Leno - October 13, 1983

This is a partial show from ‘83. Steve has a run in with a neighbor about their dog. Can you see 400 miles? A wacky DJ story. There’s a headphone thief at the station! Steve was on the Bob Braun show in 1979. Was the ghost of Marcus Palmer in Times Square?

On part two of this Aloha Friday show at Steve’s house. Terry Armour & Ed Silha join the broadcast. Steve talks sponsors wants to a jet boat. He thinks Joe & Ali should get married. Stan with a stock market report. Plus, why do the boys wear two shirts?

More of this ‘89 show when Steve & Garry took the morning slot from Johnny B. Richard Lewis calls from his hotel. He had just gone to bed! Chet Chitchat & Sports fern. Greg Solk brings in some corned beef sandwiches for the guys. Just like old times!

Even through the "drinking" years, Steve had the presence of mind to start recording and saving his shows. The early shows were recorded on a Betamax and then later on VHS machines. That was the only way to record an entire 4 1/2-hour show without having to remember to change tapes every hour. Subscribers are now the beneficiaries of Steve's foresight with the weekly Descent. From WDAI to the Steve and Garry years to Steve solo on WCKG, The Descent Into The Archives is vintage Steve Dahl.
