We will be reading the story of the woman at the well.  Read John 4:1-9   Question 1: Why is it strange for Jesus to encounter the woman at a well, at that time of day and all alone? What does this tell us about the woman? What does this tell us about Jesus?   Read John 4:10-18   Question 2: Why do we often try to avoid conversations that bring up pain on our lives? How do you usually respond when someone brings up a hard topic? Why do you think Jesus was willing to talk about hard things with this woman?   Read John 4:19-26   Question 3: Jesus is focused in his pursuit of revealing truth to the Samaritan woman, even when she is avoidant and confused. Why do you think Jesus wanted to reveal the truth about Himself to this woman? What does it tell us about Jesus’ character?   Read John 27-30   Question 4: The woman is used by Jesus right then and there to share the gospel. Do you think Jesus can use you in the midst of your own disappointment? Do you think you need to act a certain way in order to be used by Jesus? This is the testimony he gives before He is arrested and killed. It solidifies his ministry that started at the beginning of this book. John is baptizing people for one reason: To bring people to Jesus so that they can turn from their sinful nature to Jesus’ perfect truth and grace. John is proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus and directly tying the “Son” to God “The Father” in this testimony. This is repetition compared to the beginning of John as the apostle John (the author) wrote, “He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe though him. He was not the light…”—John 1:7-8 Further Instruction for the Bridegroom: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-26 “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven” — John 3:27 “He must increase, but I must decrease. He who comes from above is above all…” John 3:29 The Offering of Isaac —“Abraham called the name of that place The LORD will provide, as it is said to this day, ‘In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:14 “Vanity of Vanities,” says the Preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” —Ecclesiastes 1:2 “That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So is there anything new under the sun.” — Ecclesiastes 1:9 Everything on Earth belongs to God—this is God’s, not ours. We must serve our master as His bridegroom and submit to Jesus’ order, rules, commandments in order that we can become holy and blameless. It is only HIM who can make us blameless. They are not only harmful, but they also lead to other sins. Gen 9, Gen 19, Eze 23:33, Rom 13:13, Gal 5:21, Eph 5:18, 1Pe 4:3, 1Co 5:11 and 6:9-10 יַיִן Yahyin:  wine (as fermented); by implication, intoxication: banqueting, wine, wine(-bibber). Examples: Positive Wine: Amos 9:14, Ps. 104:14-15, Ecc 9:7-8 Circumstantial- used as medicine: Proverbs 31:6 Negative wine: Proverbs 4:17, Proverbs 20:1, 1 Sam 1:14 תִּירוֹשׁ Ti-rosh: in the sense of expulsion; must or fresh grape-juice (as just squeezed out); by implication (rarely) fermented wine:—(new, sweet) wine.
