One of Paul's prison epistles. Paul writes very confidently for one in prison. He writes a small letter to the Philippians. Paul tells us we are servants of the Church. Prayer and thanksgiving are themes of this book.-Why is Paul so confident- Verse 6- God will finish what He has started. The Saints will persevere.-Theology is a study for the joy of God in Christ.-Sanctification is a part of perseverance.-We need to remember that we are God's workmanship, we need to be reminded who made us.

God's Work

A fig tree represented peace and cleansing. There was a high priest, Joshua who was standing before God filthy in soiled dress. The authorities said the man should not be standing before God. The Lord rebukes choosing to save the priest. He was a brand picked out of the fire. The iniquity was taken away. The Lord reminds us we need to be cleansed.-In God's throne room we are commanded not to sin, but if we do we are to have an advocate. Our advocate is Jesus, who is prophet, priest and king.-We see the suffering servant is the branch- the iniquity of sin is removed. -We are to invite our neighbors for a feast with Jesus so we may build a relationship with them that they may acknowledge and worship Christ, the advocator.

Fig Tree Fellowship

We are called to imitate God, this is a strong command.- imitate is to mimic or copy. We are commanded to walk with the Lord. We were made in creation to be like God. Adam walked with God.-Sin changed everything. Today we have been given His Son, who has given Himself for us. We are to walk in love, as Christ has loved us.-The Lord has pursued us with a great love.-Jesus is Prophet, Priest and King.

Be Imitators of God

Title- A Look of Faith-Speaker- Alexander M. Paunovic-Bible- Zechariah 12-10-Date- September 5, 2021--In this text, we see the true nature of faith and repentance. This verse can be broken up into three parts- 1- the source of faith and repentance, 2- the sight that is true faith, and 3- the sorrow that comes with a genuine, evangelical repentance. Considering these things will help us to properly prepare our hearts for the receiving of the Lord's Supper.

A Look of Faith

Our culture is here today where there is lots of spiritual conversations, but much uncertainty. -The Lord who calls us has a specific gospel. We as people are from the Father from the beginning to the end. We as sinners are pursued by God and He saves us by His mercy. It is nothing we do in salvation, but what God does for us.-Romans 8-29-30 The scope is eternity to eternity. The center is the call. God predestines us for eternal life. He foreknew us and saved us by - through faith -a gift of God-. Our predestined lives are in God's hands. What a comfort- Many today want to be independent, but have a difficult time letting God's hands work within us. Jesus calls us to -come to life- through effectual calling -inward working of God in our hearts-.-The Bible is given to us for assurance. We have from beginning to the future.

Future Glory

Jesus is the only true, effective answer to evil. The world is full of spiritual turmoil and evil. Satan is a created being, not knowing the future. He is a limited being, not able to be present everywhere. Depravity has grown more open and accepted.-Paul tells us to be -Strong in The Lord-. God has given us His Armor to withstand the depravity and evil of this world.-We have been called to engage the world.-The Armour is for all who believe-

The Whole Armor of God

Do not let cultural ideas form your view of the Church. We need to ask ourselves if our understanding of the Church comes form Scripture.-Many have a low view of the visible Church.-We are called to understand what the true Church is among the many who call themselves a church.-None of us has the -gift of self edification-. Unless we are part of the Church, we are not part of Christ.-The Sacraments at taken as community, as the body of Christ.-God has promised to work in the Church, having given the members of the body gifts as He has seen fit. These gifts are diverse so that the Church might be well equipped.

He Gave Gifts to Men

Ephesians is a small concise letter to a people Paul loved. He exhorts them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. -Many today think little of the Church, even some who call themselves Christians. Their profession often leads us to question their relationship to Christ.-We who believe are called the bride of Christ and the body of Christ.-We would do well to abide by Paul's exhortation - Walk in a manner worthy....Remembering that God has given various gifts to His people.

Unity in the Body of Christ

Verses 6 and 7 are the very heart of prayer. Our lives are full of uncertainty and anxiety. We are surrounded by trouble and sin. It is then that we are called to prayer. If we suffer, let us pray. We are to be thankful as we pray for we have been reconciled to God and have peace with God. We have access through Christ to the very presence of God. True prayer is in Christ alone.-Prayer brings us to God and gives us the Peace of God.-The Psalms are prayers in song

What is Prayer?

Paul puts the Scriptures in the question form. Our hands are in God's work. The maintenance of our lives is not by us but by God. -The scope of the redemption of Christ is the gospel. -And those he predestined, he also called, those he called, he also justified, those he justified, he also glorified. If God is for us, who can be against us.-We see in Romans 8 God gave us His own son that we may be saved. Christ intercedes for us. God's redemptive grace is seen through Christ, who lived, died and was raised to be with God, the Father. Christ did not come of His own accord, but God, the Father sent Him with the Holy Spirit to serve us with a covenant of grace. Christ came and purchased His children. Who is at work in our lives- God, the Father, Son - the Holy Spirit. They work for our redemption. For he who began a good work in us will perfect it.

God's Great Love part 2

What has Christ done for -accomplished- you- How do you understand what He has done- Paul, in Romans, unfolds all that Christ has done-how broad and complete His work is. -WE will all answer to Jesus the Judge.-Romans 8 ends with 7 questions-some rhetorical. What shall we say-

God's Great Love Part 1

Transitions are part of life. Life is full of them, full of change. We as Christians look the Lord for guidance and understanding and help as we face these changes.-Paul shows the importance of pastoral ministry, as he leaves one ministry and goes to another. Practical pastoral work is serious and important. We need to serve Christ in the Church practically.-Paul preached the whole council of God. The Word of God and its faithful preaching is the best deterrence against error. We are to be alert to false teachers

Paul's Farewell Address

Jesus says that if someone is ashamed of Him and His word, He will also be ashamed of him when He comes again. Jesus is the -Word, the God who has spoken. We should be faithful students of the word, the Word should hold a special place in our hearts.-All Scripture has been written that we might know and believe that Jesus is the Christ.-The Scripture gives assurance of the faithfulness of God.

All Scripture is God-Breathed

AS the ungodliness of the past two years has manifested itself, we have to stop and realize we have always been in a world of sinfulness since Adam. Yet through this sinfulness God has never stopped his work. Many have lived through the years under extreme circumstances. -God has called us to stand for Him in our circumstances and devotion to Him. -With Daniel, Meshach, Shadrack, and Abednego were under lots of pressure to reform -change-. -Be not conformed to this world but transformed to the renewing of your minds.--In this world the Christians are the remnant of God's children. In living in the minority, the Christians must walk with the Lord and serve Him. The Lord knows how to deliver His children.

The God of His People

Only those in Christ are truly free. Just what is freedom- What is Christian freedom- For the Christian, knowing Christ is freedom.-For we have been bought with a price, we are therefore free by God's Grace.-Jesus tells us that the truth shall set us free and that He is the Truth.-His Word is true and the Truth.-He who practices sin is a slave of sin and does not know the truth.
