The Foundry Club The Foundry Club is a Dallas coworking and shared office space, that strives to differentiate itself via community, unique office space and startup incubator help. They sponsor several meetups, and resources that help Â startups along their journey.Â As recently featured in the Dallas Business Journal, the Foundry signed a lease for an additional 6,000 square feet of office space at Mockingbird Station.Â They plan to expand to a few new locations around the DFW Metroplex area. They wont deliver booze or people, and mainly deal with food orders. They've been in Dallas for nearly 5 months now, and are soon expanding to San Antonio. They try to deliver in 30 minutes if possible. I talk about my personal experiences using Favor to have lunch delivered, and my feedback on the service, including my love for extra rolls with my fried chicken. According to Wikepedia, coworking is a style of work that involves a shared working environment, often an office, and independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is also the social gathering of a group of people who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with like-minded talented people in the same space. Coworking offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home. The term was coined circa 1999 and in 2005 coworking spots and spaces started popping everywhere from San Francisco to even rural areas. Coworking Demographics A 2011 survey found most coworkers are currently in their late twenties to late thirties, with an average age of 34 years. Two-thirds are men, one third are women. Four in five coworkers started their career with a university education. The majority of coworkers work in creative industries or new media. Slightly more than half of all coworkers are freelancers. However, the share of salaried employees has increased since larger companies have started to experiment with coworking, especially in the U.S., where 35 percent work as salaried employees. Liss directed and stared in the documentaryÂ One Couch at a Time. Her documenaryÂ has been showing across the United States at indie movie theaters and cities with large communities of couchsurfers that have beenÂ hosting screenings.Â  We also spoke with the film's producer Jean-Michel Werk and local Dallas-Fort Worth community couchsurfing tribe leader Brad Wilson.Â Wilson met his wifeÂ while hosting events for local couchsurfers in theÂ DFW area. Merrill, who is the Director of Marketing for the locally-based global online marketing companyÂ ReachLocal. Merrill is also the chairman and past-president of theÂ Social Media Club of Dallas. An Interview with Mike Merrill Mike has consistently brought value to the Dallas community as far as leadership in marketing, social media education, and volunteerism. He is on several boards including theÂ Volunteer Center of North Texas, which represents over 2,500 volunteer organizations.
