Released in 2000, this game was just the latest entry in a long and storied career for ol' Kirb, but like the games before it, Kirby 64 uses variation and current tech to keep things fresh. I'll Show You... Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64, 2000)

Welcome to the first I'll Show You Mine of 2020! We're ringing in the New Year with a classic Rankin/Bass animation, "Rudolph's Shiny New Year," from 1976. What, you didn't know that right after Rudolph saved Christmas he also saved New Year's by rescuing the Baby New Year? Okay, it's not one of the most well-known Rankin/Bass but it's the one that works for the season! Join us as we power through this absolutely buckwild storyline, shake our heads at the awkward writing, and laugh at all the weird moments in the animation and the plot itself. I'll Show You... Rudolph's Shiny New Year (1976)

We're celebrating the end of December, aka Star Wars season, with two of the early Star Wars video games that were released in the years between the end of the original trilogy and the release of the Special Editions in the late 90s, "Star Wars: Rebel Assault" and "Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2, The Hidden Empire" Join us as we play through as much as we can stand of the original, brutally difficult "Rebel Assault" and discuss the more detailed plot and easier mechanics of the sequel. We marvel at the similarities between Luke Skywalker and the star of "Hidden Empire," Rookie One and answer the age-old question, at the end of the day, can you look at this thing and call it a Star War? I'll Show You... Frozen (2013)

Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! We're celebrating JRPG Thanksgiving again with one of the most iconic Japanese RPGs of all time, Final Fantasy 7. Released in 1997, this game helped break JRPGs into the Western market and became one of the best known entries in the Final Fantasy franchise, spawning spin-offs and cameos for years to come. Join us as we do our best to recount the very convoluted plot, talk about what worked and didn't, and marvel at what a mind-blowing and impressive experience this was in 1997. This is our longest episode ever and it's pretty much all going deep on the plot and character details of FFVII so be warned! Big Nerd Alert. If this isn't your thing might wanna skip this one. I'll Show You... Final Fantasy 7 (PlayStation, 1997)

Welcome to another Halloween Spooktacular from I'll Show You Mine! This spooky season we're watching "The Quiet Family" from 1998, the first feature film directed by Kim Jee-woon. This Korean black comedy follows the Kang family, who buys a mountain lodge and has to take desperate measures when their guests all start dying... Join us as we talk about director Kim Jee-woon and his trajectory from dark humor to blockbuster action and thrillers, James takes a hard line against Meet the Parents, and we hammer into memory a name that any movie fan should definitely familiarize themselves with: Song Kang-ho. Just a warning, this movie deals with some sensitive topics like suicide and sexual assault, not treated like punchlines but they are discussed frankly in this episode. I'll Show You... The Quiet Family (1998)

It's time for another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week James is showing Elyse "The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX" for the Game Boy Color, released in 1998. DX is essentially a color port of the original Link's Awakening, released for the Game Boy in 1993, but a good game doesn't really need too many changes. Join us as we dive in to this odd duck in the Zelda franchise, a handheld Zelda game that doesn't take place in Hyrule, involves none of the main characters we've come to know, and might all... be a dream? We'll get into the inspiration for this game, the meta humor of it, and James says "obtuse" a lot, because it's a good word to describe this delightfully eerie chapter in the Zelda series. Obtuse. I'll Show You... The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (1998)

Welcome to I'll Show You Mine! This week Elyse is showing James "Anastasia" from 1997. A Fox Animation Studios film directed by Don Bluth, "Anastasia" is a musical historical fiction about the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov. In this version of the story, Anastasia survived the Russian Revolution and must remember who she is and find her way to Paris to reunite with the only family she has left. Join us as we talk about "that Don Bluth feeling", the real history behind the fiction, and get a little real about how even though it is impressive in its own right, we get why Bluth animation wasn't quite as successful as Disney back in the day. One of the iconic action movies of the 1990s, Speed follows Jack Traven of the LAPD as he battles wits (and traffic, lol!) with an extortionist bomber who has rigged a bus to explode if his demands are not met. Join us as James imagines this movie starring Tom Cruise, Dennis Hopper gets all the props for his portrayal of villain Howard Payne, and Elyse slowly comes to grips with the realization that while fun, Speed maybe isn't quite as good as she remembered?? Yes, diving horses as an attraction was a real thing, Google it, there are like, a lot of wild pictures of it. I'll Show You... Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991)

Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week James is showing Elyse "Firewatch" for the PC, released in 2016. Probably the most recent game we've ever played, Firewatch is by developer Campo Santo and follows the story of Henry, a man trying to get away from it all by taking a summer job as a firewatch in Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming. Along the way Henry forms a relationship with fellow lookout Delilah who lives in the tower across the way, and strange things happen over the course of the summer. Join us as we talk about the wonder and awe of being out in nature alone, the great environmental storytelling in this game, and the bittersweet mood that settles over the whole adventure. And if you want to play the game, do it before you listen, because spoilers abound! The song at the end of this episode is "Ol' Shoshone" from the Firewatch OST, by Chris Remo. I'll Show You... Firewatch (PC, 2016)

This week, Elyse shows James "The Music Man" from 1962, directed by Morton DaCosta and starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones, One of the classic American musicals, "The Music Man" tells the story of Harold Hill, a traveling salesman/con artist who comes to River City, Iowa to sell the residents on a boy's band, but gets a little more than he bargained for. Join us as we talk about how this musical is basically imprinted on Elyse's DNA because her dad played the lead role as a young adult, discuss all the musical nerdery at play, and just soak up the bright colors, fancy costumes, and precise choreography of one of the most beloved musicals of all time. I'll Show You... The Music Man (1962)

This 2005 game takes place in a summer camp for psychic children and follows runaway Razputin as he tries to hone his psychic abilities and unravel the mystery of what is happening to all the campers at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. Join us as we talk about this game's troubled development and later popularity, reminisce about our own summer camp experiences, marvel at how good it feels to play this game, and split our sides laughing at all the jokes and clever ways it finds to tell its unique story.
