The interesting aspect of these evictions is that they are justified as to be "in the public interest."As government often use the public interest justification to do things that are under normal circumstances considered illegal, Aljaz and Tiemo ponder what public interest actually means and utilizing a very interesting article written by Paul D. Forced Evictions in the Public Interest

Aljaž and Tiemo venture into Africa and take a look at religion and the laws and ideas that may come with it. More specifically, the application of Sharia Criminal law in Nigeria, which has faced criticism for its human rights abuses is analysed. Nigeria prides itself as being a State which functions with an almost even split between Muslims and Christians by ensuring the separation of church and state via its constitution. Yet the lines are becoming blurry and the question of does Sharia law conflict with such clause must be addressed. The episode drifts to a more general discussion of religion in politics and in law, not only in Africa, but also in Europe and the US focusing on what can we learn from current events and what this may mean for the future.

Sharia Law in Nigeria

It seems that Aljaz and Tiemo are busy in quarantine as for this episode of Juristudents they invite a special guest, Csoban, to explain to talk about his paper on the Shanghai International Settlement. More specifically, Csoban talks about an interesting law which was adopted in the 1930s to prohibit Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany from entering Shanghai. In a broader sense, Csoban addresses interesting developments in China at the time and how that may have shaped it today, through its power struggles and wars. Aljaz and Tiemo are stuck in lockdown and have to make the best out of the situation. Privacy in Times of COVID-19

Concept of the Revolving Door in the European Union

Gathering their thoughts in Africa, Aljaž and Tiemo progress into the dangerous Middle East and discuss, in abstract, different approaches to foreign policy there. Different countries have sough different interests in this highly disputed area. The two law students present a birds-eye picture of the current situation with some insight into historical developments and what this may mean in the future. With regards to the future of the podcast, this episode may serve as an introductory episode into a series of ventures into the Middle East, as the area is far more complex to solve in a 30 minute episode.

Foreign Policy in the Middle East

Two students perform in-depth, legal analysis of a historic case being brought before the ICJ, by Gambia, against Myanmar. Myanmar is being accused of the gravest crime there is, genocide. Only the second genocide taken before the court, the leader of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi, has taken off from the Yangon Airport on the date of recording, to defend her nation against the accusations. A follow up episode about defences used by Myanmar will be published next weekend when analysing the hearings.
