In the next 10 episodes, I'm going to walk you through each of the toxic behaviors that I identified in myself and how I am working to change them. I've also found that it's important to start observing how often these behaviors show up in the people you spend time with.  In today's episode I'm talking about giving unsolicited ADVICE and RESCUING people from situations or emotions when it is not your responsibility. This was one of the first things I noticed myself doing, and also the first thing I notice myself slipping back into when I'm not paying attention. It removes SO MUCH stress and anxiety when we realize that rescuing and giving advice is not our responsibility and when we stop doing those things. I have had a history of stressing and over-extending myself during the holidays because I didn't know it was ok to make my own decisions and say no to certain things. My husband and I have started intentionally planning more downtime at home with our kids. We're no longer accepting guilt trips and feeling the pressure to be everywhere and do everything. Allowing yourself to get over-stressed and exhausted to keep someone else happy is not healthy and it's not ok. As a grown adult, you can decide what's best for you and your family!
