**Burly Men With Powers** The last decade has seen many changes in mainstream media, but possibly the most surprising has been the massive rise in popularity of superheroes - thanks in no small part to the MCU, the DCEU, and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. What’s interesting though, is that superheroes have always been popular in animation. From Western cartoons like X-Men, Justice League Unlimited, Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, to anime titles like Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Casshern, One-Punch Man and My Hero Academia.  So how do superheroes fit into the modern animated landscape, and what actually counts as a superhero when it comes to anime? **Those Goofy Cave People** On this episode of Keyframe, Tucky and Producer Rob attempt to unpick the Academy’s “For Your Consideration” list of animated feature films that are in the running to receive a nomination for an Oscar. Join them as they get wax cynical about the awards, lament the fact that great movies like The Breadwinner and A Silent Voice didn’t get the attention they deserved because Disney/Pixar made a film about a kid who wants to be a musician and that is somehow more compelling than a film about the causes and consequences of bullying or trying to be female in Taliban controlled Afghanistan … _breathe_ … You get the point. Anyway, ignoring the fact that many deserving films have historically been almost criminally under-represented simply because they weren’t American or British, this year makes for interesting reading at the very least. Rounding things off is something beautiful and serious that deals with the horrors of living in under a brutal, zealous and xenophobic regime, the trials and tribulations of being female in such a place, and the salvation that can be found in family.
