Innovations around Transitioning to College with Kapi‘olani Community College

Where Are They Now? Striving for her Highest with Strength, Resiliency, Compassion, and Love

Today&apos;s youth are doing amazing things at such a young age.  As for the Kuilei Outreach Program that manages the College&apos;s Dual Credit Program, we LOVE IT when we see students move forward with PURPOSE.  Back in May of 2018, Kapi‘olani Community College had our first with one of our graduates, Maximillian Soares Miehlstein, walked with not only his Associate in Arts in Deaf Studies but with his high school diploma as well!  In May of 2021, we will have Jace Takeshi Kapomaikaʻipauole Ogata who will be graduating with his Associate in Arts in Psychology at Kapi‘olani Community College along with his high school diploma from Kalani HS.  Amazing!  In this episode, we talk story with both Jace and his mom, Dr. Vern Ogata, to learn more about his growth, resiliency, perseverance, and plans for the future.  Please listen to this extremely Courageous Conversation.  Enjoy!Original music by Joe Yoshida

Financing College in 2021

Learning and growth come in different forms.  In this episode, we walk along with Nolan Hong who shared his heartfelt journey with one of our beloved instructors, Lina Doo.  His message highlighted how education comes from places one would least expect.  It was instructors who instilled confidence when no one else would, it was those classmates who stood by your side no matter what, and it was the dynamic campus demographic that offered various points of view.  He embraced these experiences and created this own path.   “I got a degree in life.”  It was pure joy to be a part of this interview.  I’m certain Lina’s spirit is around us, especially with Nolan, giving her nod of approval.    Check out Nolan Hong at nolanhong.com and through POP! Spring 2021 Tips for Success

It takes students to make changes that are relevant to students.  It takes brave and courageous students to step up a be that voice for students.  "You can&apos;t have a Student Congress without STUDENTS."  In this episode, you will hear me say "wonderful" a gazillion times because this interview was just that, "wonderful."  We had the honor of interviewing this semester&apos;s Kapi‘olani Community College&apos;s Student Congress - Alex - President, Nikko (Nick) - Vice President, Sosie - Secretary, Jenny - Treasurer, and Levi - Public Relations.  Even though they are from diverse backgrounds, they share a common thread of compassion, empathy, and Aloha.  Please enjoy.
