He and Bob will be commentating at this year's K9 Street League event! It's like the bite dog and protection dog version of the SRS in the hunting dog world. Bob asks KD a ton of cool questions about the training involved, the types of situations people have to prepare their dog for, how people in the bite suits prepare, etc. and a ton more. The bite dog world is incredible and the crossover between the foundational principles of dog training for them and for the hunting world are similar. Tonight we sit down to chat with Cable Smith from the Lone Star Outdoor Show (check him out here) and trade a few hunting stories. We learn how he got into the radio business and how he originally trained his first gundog. We also hear how his passion for the outdoors has evolved and how he now chases wild game all over the US and Africa. He even talks about how to find cool hunts, prices and some misconceptions about hunting in different places. Cable is a super down to earth guy and is an awesome storyteller. It was great to have him on the show and hang out with us for a bit.

E. 122 Trading hunting stories with Cable Smith

Tonight we sit down to chat with our fellow dog man, Tom Davis. The Lone Duck crew is pretty fired up to have Tom on our show because he's a great storyteller and really knows his stuff when it comes to dog behavior. To kick off the show, we hear the backstory of how Tom got into his first business and how that led into his WILD story of getting into off leash training. We then dig into more of how he is unique in working with dogs and then he and Bob rattle off some Q&A questions from Instagram. Had a great call last night with one of the greats, Lyle Steinman. Yes, he came back onto the show to catch up and recap his year with Bob. They dig into Master Nationals, The Mamba Challenge, his goals for next year and how they plan to get there. It was pretty interested to hear Lyle talk about goals and how he sets and achieves them. Then we slide on into some questions from our patreon community. Lyle and Bob run through transitioning dogs from being at the trainers to being at home, casting drills and tips, how Lyle tones down a high-drivin' dog and a bunch more. Holy cow, what a detailed show. Tonight, we had the pleasure of chatting with a repeat guest and awesome guy, Kevin Cheff (The Retriever Coach). He is extremely knowledgeable and is great at breaking down training and information so anyone can understand each step along the way. Oh, and he does seminars you should look into. Some topics discussed are: dogs with high drive, getting dogs to come out of a kennel nicely, holding blind manners, indirect pressure, handling on marks, blinds, etc. After we finished the show, Bob turned to me and said "this was one of the best." Our show gets pretty deep and discusses human connections and how that connection works with dogs, too. A few weeks back, a true dog man (KD Mathews) came to hang out and share some stories. KD lives down in sunny Florida and has been in the dog training business for the past 30 years and the reason is because he asks questions. Then he asks more. He asks the owners questions and in turn, teaches the owners about their dogs before really even teaching the dogs. Then ya know, he teaches the dogs, too. We dig into some leadership with dogs & people and surprise: coaching people and coaching dogs can be eerily similar. KD provides a phenomenal analogy that really hits home, especially since we all refer to ol' Lone D as Uncle Bob. Then we finish up chatting about bite work with dogs, the importance of a "denial" and how dogs never forget things, we just try to bury those memories deep, deep down below tons of positive reps. E 112. Dog training: principles vs methods

Today's show was certainly a special one. We had the pleasure of speaking with 1st Lt. Amber English... but you might know her more as the bad to the bone wingshooter with nerves of steel who earned the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Amber has been competing for years and is currently shooting on the AMU team in the United States Army, so she has the coolest job ever. We learn about her time in Tokyo, the food she has eaten while traveling, her hunting plans for the fall and a ton more. Amber also shares some advice she's heard from coaches and she even offers some tips to help us become better shooters...we'll see how it goes. Welcome welcome. Tonight's show was with our buddy, Doug, from Soggy Dog Gear. He's an awesome guy who enjoys training dogs and telling tales. Doug lives out in Michigan and that lucky dog happens to live in some prime bird hunting area (I'm not jealous or anything, it's fine). Anyway, we have a great time talking about how Doug got started working with dogs, new products from his dog supply company, a contest Doug is putting together for amateur trainers, Dogtra products he likes and possibly my favorite part of the conversation... we talk about fire breathing, pumped up, high drive dogs and how to handle them. Doug happens to own a fire breather and he and Bob talk a lot about obedience, ways to work with those kinds of dogs, lessons learned from k9 handlers, etc. We'll have to have Doug back on the show sometime because 1. he's the man and 2. we had a great conversation and I want to hear more about some grouse action.
