Carlton Palmer is probably the most controversial man ever to be given the post of Mansfield Town FC manager. Arriving in November 2004 when Keith Curle was suspended, Palmer answered the call for help for long time old-friend Keith Haslam. THAT Relationship coupled with numerous comings and goings of fan favourites was the start of a difficult, sometimes toxic, relationship between Palmer and the fans. Eventually appointed after nearly FIVE MONTHS as Caretaker Manager, Palmer would go onto rebuild the squad for the following season, only to resign in dramatic fashion LIVE on Mansfield 103.2 Radio after a horrendous game at Rochdale. For the first time in detail – Carlton reveals why he walked away, shunting the blame onto one individual – a man he appointed! The interview reveals more from Carlton’s perspective about his tenure as manager, including battles with mental health for his players, tough decisions and fan pressure. ….. A note from Craig; We understand that this will be the most controversial episode of the Mansfield Matters Podcast to date, but wish to stress that if a majority of you guys hadn’t backed the idea when Carlton showed interest in coming on the show via Twitter, it wouldn’t have been made. Winger Adam Rundle faced an uphill battle when he joined the Stags. In January 2005 he was brought in and lined up to replaced fans favourite Wayne Corden on the left hand side of the Mansfield midfield, but soon won supporters over with many a decent display. In his 18 month stint at the Stags, Rundle would become part of a vastly changing Mansfield Town, on and off the pitch, and became part of a dressing room which would see the Stags grace St James’ Park, Newcastle in the FA Cup. Headlines were written on Rundle going back to his home town and, to be fair, he put in a class display – but many years on the now part time singer, reveals why the game on the big stage took its toll on his confidence, anxiety and self-belief. During his Stags Story, Rundle also reveals all about the struggle of living away from home at a young age in some questionable digs – plus reveals how he was the one to spark the resignation of controversial manager Carlton Palmer. Striker Andy White has had quite a journey, and we’re not talking about playing for every club under the sun trying to get a reputation as a Journeyman! From joining the Stags as a youngster in the late 90s and making the breakthrough into a promotion winning team, to trying his hand at being a firefighter and even a cop – the Derby born front man joins Craig and Nathan to reveal all!
