Host Jennifer Hawks takes My Yukon Life listeners on location to Whitehorse, Yukon for the 2011 invitation-only opening night of The Frantic Follies. The Frantic Follies is a turn of the century vaudeville revue which depicts the entertainment seen by the pioneers of the Great Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. The company has been in operation for 42 years and is known as the most popular and successful show in the Yukon and Alaska. Over one million people have seen the Frantic Follies which runs from mid-May through mid-September each year.

Host Jennifer Hawks takes My Yukon Life listeners on location this Victoria Day to Yukon Brewing in Whitehorse. How else could we celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday other than to hoist a few and take our listeners on a VIP tour of the brewery? Their brew Yukon Red has been named Canada’s Top Amber four years in a row. In September 2009 Yukon Red, the brewery's Amber Ale was awarded the 2009 Canadian Beer of the Year at the Canadian Brewing Awards, finishing with gold in the Amber Ale category. Yukon Brewing also now distills and barrels single malt whiskey. The whiskey and other spirit products are sold under Yukon Brewing’s sister company Yukon Spirits. Special guest: Yukon chef and cookbook author Michele (Miche) Genest.   Miche Genest is the food columnist for Yukon, North of Ordinary magazine. She is also author of the cookbook, The Boreal Gourmet: Adventures in Northern Cooking, a true northern cookbook featuring Yukon flavours and traditions.   Wild is wonderful when it comes to Genest’s creative treatments for northern viands, with exciting ideas such as moose cooked in Yukon brewed espresso stout and finished with chocolate, lime and cilantro, Arctic char marinated in grappa and then hot smoked, or roasted spruce grouse draped in a sour cream and Madeira sauce. As much culinary adventure story as cookbook, The Boreal Gourmet combines a portrait of northern life with an exploration of wild or country foods in gourmet recipes for the home cook. These recipes are inspired by a diversity of countries, traditions and kitchens, and spring from a love affair with the indigenous foods that flourish in the boreal forests and river valleys of the Yukon.
