The King Jesus had performed miracles, but He had not as of yet shown His glory and His power - not until the day of His Transfiguration. The greatest Apostles (Peter, James, and John) would look back at the moment and recount how they had seen His glory. Come and behold Him in His glory!

In the end of Matthew 15, Jesus yet again feeds a multitude with a few loaves and small fish. Soon after that, near the beginning of chapter 16, the disciples are worrying about not having bread to eat even though they are with Jesus. How disappointing to see their small faith! But between the miracle of feeding the second multitude and the sputtering faith of the disciples, something occurred that affected them, even though they were unaware. The same thing happens to us. Fewer young people are identifying as Bible-believing followers of Jesus. Christians need to make some radical shifts in how we think about training up the next generation because what we've been doing isn't working. Some 70-80% of kids raised in Christian homes walk away from the faith by the end of their freshman year of college. Fortunately, we have a perfect example to learn from in our Heavenly Father. In Matthew 15, Jesus has another run-in with the Pharisees and this time he calls them out for their hypocrisy. Jesus rebukes them for talking a big talk, but not really loving God at all. This next story in Matthew that we are studying is about how those most familiar with Jesus rejected Him as the Messiah. We are going to look at the dangers of familiarity and how that same thing can sometimes happen to us. 

Jesus Rejected by His Own

From one perspective, the Christian life might look like sacrifice and from another it might look like gain. For example, take the Apostle Paul who was whipped, stoned, imprisoned and hunted the entire time he followed Jesus. He certainly made sacrifices. But from another perspective, Paul didn't "sacrifice" anything. From his perspective, his life looked like gain. Throughout Paul's journeys, he experienced a joy unlike anything he'd ever known before, a joy that made al the losses he experienced seem like nothing. This Sunday, we learn more about the joy that comes from discovering the treasure of the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

What is the Kingdom of Christ (Kingdom of Heaven) like? Jesus teaches us parables that begin to answer this question. The first thing He wants us to know about His Kingdom is that it's a mixed bag! The Lord is calling us to not take our eternal comfort from being in a church, but to instead seek fruitfulness by His Spirit and by faith. Join us to learn more.

The Tares in Heaven's Kingdom

We all love a good story, don't we? It seems that Jesus did as well. In Matthew 13, Jesus tells seven short stories or parables and after the first, the disciples ask Him, "Why do you speak in parables?" Jesus' reply indicates that stories are far older, stretching back across the centuries to the great prophet Isaiah.
