The heroes of old mentioned in chapter 11, were ordinary men and women, just like us, but they dared to take God at His word. By faith, they were able to do extraordinary things and endure extraordinary suffering. Because of what Christ has done for us, we can confidently approach God, hold fast our confession, and encourage others to stay true to Christ and one another. He also reveals the need for a better sacrifice by pointing out the inadequacy of animal sacrifices under the Law.  In Hebrews 9, the author goes into greater detail about the old covenant’s earthly tabernacle,  priesthood, and sacrifices. He contrasts it with the new covenant’s heavenly sanctuary, with Jesus priesthood, and with His sacrifice. He wants no doubt in his readers minds that we not only have a better sanctuary, covenant, and priest, but we have a superior sacrifice as well.
