This episode is also available as a blog post: https://stevetheamateurhistorian.wordpress.com/2021/04/09/the-murder-victim-who-never-was/ The mysterious death of a young woman near Rose Park Cemetery in Portland, Oregon back in 1911 has captured and kept my attention ever since I first discovered it as a small piece posted in a local paper posted on a newspaper database. But as I gained more and more information I discovered what was deemed, at least, to be the official name of the victim. However, I have a lot of issues with how that victim died and how this Rose City Park victim died in terms of being the same person. It's a truly obscure case with lots of oddities and... problems. Join me here as I delve into the case and provide my personal take on the matter.

Naomi would ultimately flee and return home to Portland, Oregon where she was born and raised. However, Riley ultimately tracked her down back to the big city and he so also arrived in Portland... with plans.

It's got everything from insanity to drugs to obsession to hostage-taking to murder and so on. It all took place in a little hotel that still stands today on Portland's west side. This is the sad story of a hotel clerk named Lawrence Goodell.

It happened 130 years ago so the odds of solving it are slim to none. But it's not just the mystery of the murder case that intrigues me but the situation leading up to it. John Curtis lived on the east side of the Willamette River (in the vicinity of where the Oregon Convention Center stands today) and he had two women in his life, one of which may have been responsible for his murder.

As a mystery man, a guy I can only definitively identify as "G. Marty" died in a manner that is equally as mysterious as he was beaten down on Portland's streets back in 1913

And hey! I can convert them to podcasts right here (and not destroy my own throat in the process). So hopefully y'all enjoy this little addition to my works. In this first posting I discuss the case of a man defending the sanctity of his home from a man moving in on his wife. In 1907 Charles Reynolds gunned down George Hibbins in the bedroom of his home, sending him out into the street to bleed out and generally freak out anyone nearby. It was a kinda bizarre story involving a bizarre marriage.
