Waverly Hills was built on the idea that fresh air and positive thinking could cure those suffering from one of the worst diseases of the early 20th century. The fact that Robert was an inanimate object didn't seem to matter, even as Gene grew up. Robert had his own personality, his own behavioral problems, and his own voice. Yikes!
