This is the second part of a six-part series. Start listening from the first part to get the best results! The second part is about goal setting and commitment. Enjoy! A goal differs from a dream in two ways. It has a deadline and it is much more concrete. By a deadline, I mean a date (i.e. June 15th, 2020). By concreteness I mean either some specific number value (bodyweight 79 kilos) and/or a rather precise written description of what do you want. Describe what and how much you would like to do or achieve. How much exactly would you like to earn, save and invest? How much more time would you like to spend with your children? How would you like to complete a development project? In which way would you like to improve your relationship with your spouse?

This is the third part of a six-part series. The third part is about courage. Enjoy! Think it through and write down which steps and tasks you need to take to reach your goal. Also, determine what progress is required by the end of each month or week to arrive on time. Think who could help you and what resources do you need. Imagine what can go wrong and prepare a plan B. Pessimists can, unfortunately, foresee so many threats that they often do not even move from square 1. Optimists, on the other hand, do not even want to consider the possibility that something might go wrong and they neglect plan B. Be a realist. Have a plan B – a plan of action that takes you to your goal when stuff hits the fan.

This is the fourth part of a six-part series. The fourth part is about motivation. Enjoy! How to keep your goals constant? The sure-fire way not to do it is to think about your goals and forget them in the daily rut. A bit better solution is to have them written down. But even then people forget their goals. Some people stick a post-it note with their goals to their computer display. Or print them out and put a landscape A4 on the wall. And learn to look right through them without even noticing the content after some weeks. Even though writing the goals down and posting them on the wall are both good ideas, they are not enough.

This is the fifth part of a six-part series. The fifth part is about hard work, discipline and power. Enjoy!  Many New Year’s plans are put in the drawer and are (maybe) taken out for a moment at the end of the year. In a good scenario: congratulate yourself. Usually – to comfort yourself with different justifications about why things once again did not work out this time. Measure progress every week. Be brutally honest with yourself. If the progress falls short of what is necessary, make it mercilessly clear to yourself.

This is the last part of a six-part series. The last part is about wisdom and teamwork. Enjoy!  Setting goals is not something you do just at the turn of the year. Work with your goals constantly. Think of new ones. If necessary, change consciously the timing or size of your goals. Look into the future. Create a compelling future for yourself – in your mind, on paper and then through action in reality. And what is most important, when you have reached the goal, for God’s sake - be happy about it and celebrate. Take a moment, share it with friends. Do be like the mountain climber who conquers Mt. Everest and leaves it very soon. He literally cannot stay long at all, due to the thin air. You can – in most situations in life. I am not talking about resting on laurels, but rather enjoying the victory. And then lift your head, look further in time and choose new peaks to conquer. Remember, you do not have to start striving towards them the same day. And if you really want to, nobody is there to stop you either. It is up to you! Enjoy the process view, enjoy the outcome. Enjoy the view, and enjoy life. And know where you are headed.
