In this episode of Real Talk about Real Trends in Workforce, Doug Foresta is joined by Kataney Couamin, Manager of Integrated Systems at Philadelphia Works. Kataney manages the overall operations of all four local PA CareerLink® centers and Philadelphia’s System-Wide Services provider, ensuring that all workforce system standards are met at both local and state levels. The two discuss public workforce resources, particularly career services, being transitioned to a virtual environment and other strategies Philadelphia Works has implemented to get residents back to work. This episode also touches on the many efforts made within Philadelphia to address the digital divide and equity concerns amplified by COVID-19. E21: Meet Your Goals from Where You Are: Virtual Resources for Career Seekers

In this episode of Real Talk about Real Trends in Workforce our guests will introduce Today’s Rosie, a new podcast that will discuss the origins of the Women in Nontraditional Careers (WINC) project in the Philadelphia region and what the benefits are for women who pursue these careers.  Nicole Fuller is a founding member of Women in Nontraditional Careers and will discuss why this work is her passion. Nicole started her career as a tradeswoman and is a long-time advocate for workers. She is now the Executive Director of PhilaPOSH, the occupational safety and health advocacy organization and serves on the WINC Steering Committee.   Nicole also co-chairs the WINC Outreach and Education Team with interviewer Miya McAfee.  Miya is a Youth Representative at Philadelphia Works who works to create career pathway programs for young people in Philadelphia’s high schools and career and technical education programs.

E20: Welcome to the Women in Nontraditional Careers (WINC) Project

 As the COVID-19 rate of infection slows and Pennsylvania plans to reopen, employers who were fortunate enough to transition their staff to remote work, are preparing for employees to return to the office.  In this episode of Real Talk about Real Trends in Workforce, Sheila Boornazian, VP of Human Resources and Administration at Philadelphia Works, discusses the role HR plays in economic recovery. Recognizing that returning to the office will come with substantial barriers to success, such as childcare access and mass transit fears, Sheila is hopeful that HR professionals can create an environment where employees feel safe and supported. To other challenges, she offers solutions and resources to help both businesses and employees get back to work.

 Ellen Metro, the business engagement representative for hospitality & entertainment at Philadelphia Works, joins the program to discuss the benefits of joining an Industry Partnership (IP). Industry Partnerships connect employers, workers, and job training providers from a single industry to collaborate on improving the industry’s competitiveness and to address common workforce challenges.   The Hospitality and Entertainment IP at Philadelphia Works is in its convening phase, but already has garnered the attention of over 100 industry professionals. Focusing on restaurants, hotels, leisure and entertainment businesses, it will support workforce initiatives by offering training solutions, employee development, networking opportunities, and recruitment strategies. Through the collaboration of industry experts, it seeks to raise career industry interest and awareness by creating sustainable career pathways for the residents of Philadelphia and its surrounding region.   This IP is a Greater Philadelphia Hospitality and Entertainment NextGen Partnership, supported by a grant from the PA Department of Labor’s PAsmart Next Generation Industry Partnership Initiative under Governor Tom Wolf.

E18: Now Convening! Philadelphia Works Launches New Hospitality and Entertainment Industry Partnership

 H. Patrick Clancy, President & CEO at Philadelphia Works joins the program to have a transparent conversation about how COVID-19 is impacting the local workforce in Philadelphia. E17: A Transparent Conversation About Philadelphia’s Workforce and COVID-19

 Philadelphia Works, the City’s workforce development board, Comcast, one of the region’s largest employers, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia have partnered to pilot an innovative funding model called Pay-for-Success. Pay-for-Success aims to train Philadelphia residents for meaningful careers that pay a family-sustaining wage and correspondingly develops a viable talent pipeline for employers.   On this podcast episode of “Real Talk about Real Trends in Workforce,” Tyrone Hampton, manager of workforce system initiatives at Philadelphia Works, walks us through the new funding model, what stage of development the program is in, and outlines the projected outcomes.
