Forty years ago, a film changed the way we watch movies. Well… not really, but it did make us laugh. And we mean we laughed so hard we wet our pants and had to hold the popcorn bucket n front of our pants when we left the theater. Now along comes a couple of Gen Xers who have decided that brilliant film was “sexist, racist” and don’t forget about the naked breasts, of which there were two and only for a second. The real problem is that they don’t understand why it’s funny. Mostly because nowadays when things aren’t understood they become “offensive.” That way they don’t have to try and learn about them. Dave’s Historical Rabbit Hole reminds us that (a) speed traps aren’t really about “safety,” and (b) judging people by how they look will always make you look foolish. Last Thursday, the DNC held a Muslim Caucus meeting via ZOOM, during which the leader recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States. What has the panties of a bunch of Evangelical zealots in a wad, is that he “left out” two words that they believe are necessary or else it is the time of the apocalypse or some such. It isn’t, of course. In fact, there is a consideration here that makes me wonder exactly why they feel the need to inflict their religious beliefs on anybody, let alone me. And it always leads to the same question: Exactly whose “god” am I “under?” By the by, the oath I took is to uphold and defend the Constitution and its protection of your right to believe in whatever Deity in which you choose to believe. Not to inflict that belief upon me…

Some pandemics have lasted as long as 238 years. It is beginning to feel like we’ve been that long – and more – already. It’s getting to Dave, and to Cami who has a problem with the Geometry of COVID-19. Never eat more anything that is almost as big as you. If you do, you will probably die or at least have a bad case of indigestion…

Kamala Harris, the democratic Party nominee for Vice President (or, if you believe the conventional wisdom, President), is African-American. Every time you post on social Media that you "don't understand" how that can be since her mother is Indian and her father is Jamaican, you both look stupid and you do exactly what the left wants you to do - judge her by her skin color instead of her character. Stop it.

Throughout his Presidency, Hayes battles with Congress became legendary. He believed that an attempt by the Bourbon Democrats to add “riders” to funding bills for the Army, the executive and Judiciary that further eroded voting rights for Black Americans was “revolutionary,” a flat out attempt to undermine the Constitution and the rob the Republican Party of it’s most treasured legacy – ending slavery. Among the Congressmen who stood by him were two of particular note. Though he had long before fallen out with the President, now-Senator roscoe Conklin (R-NY) was bombastic about what the Bourbon Democrats were attempting to do. In the House of Representatives, a thoughtful measured and decorated Union General from Illinois galvanized opposition to the Democrat’s efforts. In a speech which garnered national attention, James A. Garfield (R-IL) said: “… if the President, in the discharge of his duty, shall exercise his plain constitutional right to refuse his consent to this proposed legislation, the Congress will so use its voluntary powers as to destroy the government. This is the proposition… we confront; and we denounce it as revolution.” His stand with the President brought him to the attention of Republicans, who in 1880, on the 36th ballot nominated him for President.
