We can so easily put off the most important task in this life. Being right with God, having forgiveness and peace in our hearts and being fully ready to stand before our great Creator. The prophet Hosea urged the people -It is time to seek the Lord-.

It Is Time

There are questions and there are supremely important questions. Christ's words to Peter were ultimate questions. What we personally think of Christ and how we value our souls will determine everything eternally.

Christ's Ultimate Questions

-For this cause was the Gospel preached-. Why is the Gospel the only way to heaven- It is God's unique solution for our great problem of sin. It alone satisfies what God's perfect holiness and justice requires. It enables us to live according to God's will, not the desires of the heart, though Jesus Christ.

Why The Gospel?

Where we fail in every attempt to satisfy the soul in the wilderness of this world, Christ succeeds. As He fed the multitude, the hungry people were filled and fully satisfied. The less Jesus had to work with, the more He accomplished and was left over.

Christ Who Satisfies

Paul writing to Timothy is determined he should know how the local church, the pillar ground of the truth, must be ordered and conduct itself. Qualified Elders and Deacons should be appointed, so the Ministry can be advanced.

The Priority of the Ministry

Before we come to the Lord in repentance and faith, we are like young Samuel, we do not know the Lord. Samuel was alone, with no distractions, and he heard the call of God, personally and unmistakably. He obeyed the call and surrendered to the perfect will of God in all things.

How God Calls

The Saviour excels at everything and His kindness and mercy cannot be hidden. Having tried to escape from the crowds, they find Him. He first tests the faith of a Canaanite woman, then heals her daughter and a deaf man. They are -superabundantly astonished- saying -He has done all things well-.

Christ Excels At Everything

A Scroll, A Search, The Saviour and A Song - the astonishing vision of the Apostle John. He is shown the scroll on which all events of history are already written. But no one is found worthy to open this book. Until he turns and sees the -Lion-Lamb- Christ. He who was slain, who alone is worthy to take the book and open its seven seals. Worthy is the Lamb.

Christ's confrontation with the Pharisees and Scribes revealed their false motives. His focus on the heart and mind, theirs on what to eat, what to wear and how to wash. Christ, in exposing their hypocrisy, also explained the true nature of sin. He still requires a pure heart and total integrity from us.

How is the Church to be ruled- Christ has a threefold office as Prophet -His Word-, Priest -Worship- and King -Rule-. He has not only designed His church, given His Word, given Himself, but also gives Officers to the church to govern it by His Word.

Governing The Local Church

-Jesus Christ and Him crucified- is without doubt the focal point of all history and the centre of the Gospel. The Apostle Paul knew that there was no other theme, message, or subject as significant or relevant to the human need. As he went to Corinth, he was determined that this was to be his message.

Why A Cross + Why Christ?

What are our main concerns as believers- Christ saw the people as -being like sheep without a Shepherd-, unled and unfed. We learn from Christ's pattern. His focus was on the Kingdom of Heaven. He preached, prayed for and tenderly cared for them.

Christ's Chief Concerns

The children of Israel were sometimes like a wayward child. They just would not be warned. So the prophet Isaiah, with love and grace, used a parable of a fruitful vineyard to describe how God had done everything for this nation. However, The Lord's blessings would be withdrawn. Soon, His outstretched hand would come with righteous judgement.

Christ was confronted with unbelief throughout His ministry, in His hometown, from the crowds, Herod and even His own disciples. However, He was not deterred from His vital mission. He continued to preach and to send out the disciples to declare the glorious message of the Gospel and the great need to repent.
