Nutrition 101: Decrease Inflammation & Eat What’s in Season

The great debate of whether you should make contributions as pre-tax or as Roth can be summed up in two words: it depends. The discussion all comes back to tax rates. Pay taxes now or pay taxes later? In this episode Carson discusses the benefits of both, what to consider, and where each may have its place in your plan. Roth 401(k) plans are long-term retirement savings vehicles. Contributions to a Roth 401(k) are never tax deductible, but if certain conditions are met, distributions will be completely income tax free. Unlike Roth IRAs, Roth 401(k) participants are subject to required minimum distributions at age 72 (70 ½ if you reach 70 ½ before January 1, 2020). Like Traditional IRAs, contribution limits apply to Roth IRAs. In addition, with a Roth IRA, your allowable contribution may be reduced or eliminated if your annual income exceeds certain limits. Contributions to a Roth IRA are never tax deductible, but if certain conditions are met, distributions will be completely income tax free. 401(k) plans are long-term retirement savings vehicles. Withdrawal of pre-tax contributions and/or earnings will be subject to ordinary income tax and, if taken prior to age 59 1/2, may be subject to a 10% federal tax penalty. One of the most common employer benefits in our country right now is an employer-sponsored retirement plan. Or, in other words, a 401(k) or something of the sorts.
