Confident Detachment & Radical Honesty in Relationships with Dr. Jade Teta

"Control is the death of connection. Whereas freedom is inherent to depth of connection."   In the moments where you want to close the most, is when it’s most pivotal and transformative for you to choose to open instead. The outcome might be a deeper connection. Or perhaps you’ll realize someone isn’t the right fit for you upon opening to them. But in my experience, the moments you close yourself off are the ones you’ll regret. And the moments you open are the ones you can look back at and pinpoint as the moment you chose a different reality for yourself in the best possible ways, regardless of outcome. Because if you’d remained closed, you’d be wearing a mask. Hiding your truth and who you really are from the person you’re trying to create a closer connection with. Which only creates the kind of disconnection we like to believe closing ourselves off protects us from experiencing. Some of the questions we'll go through in this episode: How can we tell/feel when we’re closing? Why does this happen? What do I mean by opening? What does that even look like? How do we do it? What opening does NOT mean Ask yourself: if I was to open instead of shutting down in this moment, what would that look like?   And...closing also has a lot to do with control. By closing and withholding how we really feel, we choose to shift the narrative and take control of the situation. To block ourselves off behind a protective wall before anyone can hurt us.  The more often we do that, the more dissatisfied we’ll be with our relationships. Opening When You Want to Close: Why Withholding Will Damage Your Connections

How many times have you gotten caught in the hot/cold dance? That dynamic that draws you in, makes you think everything is going to be ok and you start to hang onto every word they say. A Conversation About Abusive Relationships: Shame, Victim Blaming & Shattering Myths / Stereotypes

Today's guest is so special and rapidly becoming one of my favourite humans. We're talking to Traver Boehm again today, originally featured for an epic conversation back on episode 266 - a personal favourite and one of the most powerful episodes on the entire Room To Grow™ Podcast. Changing Your Circumstances & Overcoming Rejection with Gilad Hanina of Awareness of Success

Are you waiting to be chosen? There's a difference between simply hoping to be chosen and being an active participant in doing the choosing. Many times, a lot of us will just sit around waiting for somebody to choose us, and we then almost remove ourselves as being one of the conscious parties in that decision. We want someone to choose us so that we don’t have to be vulnerable enough to put ourselves out there and risk rejection. So instead, we wait for someone to decide to take an interest in us, because it’s the safer choice. Today we're talking about all of this, including: How to figure out the way you want to FEEL with your partner, rather than choosing based off of a laundry list of "must-haves" The difference between standards, boundaries & expectations - and why it's so important to note for the quality of your relationships Knowing what you’re worth so you can get confident & clear on what you want to choose is what changes everything Some personal stories / experiences   Because let me ask you this: If you saw a job posting you really wanted, or a speaking opportunity come up, would you close your eyes and try to wish it into existence? Or would you actively apply for it, show that you were interested in it, allow your unique skills and talents to shine through so that it would be seen what a good fit you could be? And yet, we treat relationships so differently because they're so much more vulnerable and the idea of getting hurt is terrifying.
