During the same period, he came to know about & helped the Van Gujjars. Van Gujjars are predominantly a nomadic tribe of Buffalo herders inhabiting the foothills of Himalayan states like Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand & parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They have been given the status of Scheduled Tribe (ST) by some state governments. Recently he became active in the Save Thano movement, Thano Forest range is a lush green forest area deeply rich in flora & fauna. The forest houses 104 types of birds and primarily has tall Sal trees. The Uttarakhand government has got the approval of National Wildlife Board to clear 243 acres of forest land which roughly has 10,000 trees. The land will be then used to further develop and expand the Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun airport). The citizens of Dehradun and nearby areas have been openly protesting against the clearance which is highly insensitive towards mother nature. The young activists are pushing the government to find an alternative sustainable solution, they also recreated the famous "Chipko Movement" of 1973, organized nukkad nataks as a part of the protest.
