He started the gCaptain, which is currently the largest media outlet in the maritime domain.  John is equally interested in changing the narrative for the maritime industry as I am. We agree that we need to work together to create sustainable marketing for and about the maritime industry.  No one speaks about Über in the Silicon Valley anymore, they talk about Flexport, and they talk about the maritime industry." John is a big fan of Greta Thunberg; she says things people don't want to hear. But, that is what we also need to do; talk about the good and the bad in our industry. If we don't acknowledge the problems we have as an industry, then we cannot solve them - and become better. We discuss so many things in this episode, I learned a lot, and I think John gave some real food for thoughts.  What is your view? We continue the discussion about; what is a fair future for seafarers? Dr Jason Zuidema, Executive Director, North American Maritime Ministry Association, NAMMA, share his view on what we need to do to make seafarers keyworkers. He says it's about respect and using the instruments already in place. Abandonment in 2021 is a disgrace. Also, seafarers must be able to trust that they get paid. Jason thinks seafaring it's an honourable profession. Seafarers are very proud to be seafarers; it's the uncertainty that is wearing down. It's not the hard work or the hardship that comes with leaving loved ones; it's the uncertainty of now knowing when you come back the next time or if you get paid. In the end, Jason does a call for support of seafarers; everyone can do something to show kindness to international seafarers. Make sure you listen to the end. Frank is speaking his mind about many things that need to change for the seafarers to have a fair future. - a clear career path - getting paid - getting fed - getting to go home - allowed breaks to get some rest also when in port Frank is an outspoken advocate for the seafarers.
