S05E01 - Think Tank

For this episode, we resurrected three of our favourite segments from the last year. Sam Popowich discusses his book Confronting the Democratic Discourse of Librarianship: A Marxist Perspective, featuring a historical materialist account of library ideology and its development. Next we revisit our first It Came from the Stacks piece, where we unearthed a set of ancient Sumerian tablets from the depths of the library special collections. S04E04 – Bests of the Decade

In October 2019, the Toronto Public Library rented a meeting room to a group called “Radical Feminists Unite!” who invited a trans-exclusionary radical feminist, Meghan Murphy, to speak. This raises heated discussions around library policies and the border line of freedom of expression in Canada.In this episode, some Shouters had our own live panel discussion on this incident, intellectual freedom and the use of library spaces.
