Interpreting Art

Welcome back to Societal Norm! We’re back from our hiatus with an intimate episode on fear. What is it? Why do we feel it? What do we do about it? Fear — not unlike happiness, sadness, or anxiety — is a signal sent from the brain to the body, because sometimes the brain needs help interpreting the things around us. It’s as if the brain is sending a coded message to itself that it must then decode and hopefully respond to correctly. Fear’s purpose is to spur you into action. Fight, or flight, put into evolutionary terms. Addiction

Socialism / Conspiracies

One can imagine that for as long as we’ve existed on Earth humans have been in disagreement over what is right and what is wrong — what is good, and what is evil. Most religions tend to agree for the most part as far as principles go, but most of them try to boil things down to being either black or white in life, omitting the shades of grey that might exist. It’s a complex matter, but is there some kind natural order  to the world or philosophy that we can observe to get us all on the same page about how we can better define good and evil. What is Love?

We cant always get along and agree on everything. But I've found that if you and the party you may be in disagreement with are open minded enough that it's usually still a positive experience in the end. At the very least you end up learning something new about the topic, about yourself, or about your fellow human. There are some questions we simply dont have the answers to, but we can use philosophy, science, social studies and history to find a trail of truths that can lead us toward a larger truth. That's what Societal Norm, the podcast you're listening to, is all about: examining the puzzles that are culture and society one piece at a time to try to bring more understanding, reach common ground, and talk about what societal norms should stay and which should go in order to make the world a better place.
