SportsTALK: Magpies in freefall with fourth consecutive National League defeat

The SportsTALK team are a man down this week as reporter Dan Darlington is currently sidelined with paternity duties. Dave and Josh are of full fitness however and offer a unique look into the weekend’s sporting action including the hockey, rugby and football. The duo paid York Road a visit on Saturday to see Maidenhead United succumb to a narrow loss against relegation rivals Aldershot Town. Josh caught up with Magpies midfielder Ryan Upward after the game to hear his thoughts on what went wrong and what they need to rectify in time for Tuesday’s clash against Ebbsfleet United. Elsewhere, Slough Town were held to a 1-1 stalemate with Chelmsford City keeping the side firmly entrenched in third place of the National League South. In the South Central Division, Marlow maintained an impressive unbeaten run in the league with victory against South Park. Whilst over at the Gore, Burnham fell to a fourth straight league defeat to Hellenic Premier Division leaders Westfields. Back from a week off, the SportsTALK team are here to round up the few games that survived Storm Dennis. Josh visited Arbour Park on Saturday to see Slough Town host Havant and Waterlooville in the National League South. In adverse weather conditions he spoke to joint boss Jon Underwood after the game to hear his thoughts of the result. Postponements elsewhere included Maidenhead United’s clash against AFC Fylde and Maidenhead RFC’s match against Okehampton. Hear what Dan and Dave had to say on the sides and their aims for the end of the season. The SportsTALK team discuss the flashpoints from all the weekend’s sport.  This week’s podcast kicks off with an analysis on Marlow’s clash against Westfield in the Isthmian South Central Division.  The Blues picked up a valuable three points over Westfield but the match wasn’t as straight forward as it seems. Dan spoke to boss Mark Bartley after the game to hear his thoughts on two red cards and some questionable refereeing decisions.  Elsewhere, Josh made his first journey over to Arbour Park where Slough Town suffered a surprise defeat at home to Oxford City after Ryan Bird gifted the visitors a fortunate victory. The SportsTALK team are back to round-up a mostly positive weekend of sport in our local area. On Saturday, Maidenhead United claimed a vital win over Eastleigh to boost their bid to maintain their National League status. But United couldn’t have done it without star striker Danny Whitehall. Josh caught up with the forward after the game on his performance and what the result means for the Magpies. Slough Town continued their march in the National League South with a 1-0 win over Braintree. Warren Harris’ first half finish left the Rebels 3rd in the table. Dan reflects on their fight for promotion and impressive form. There was no rugby this weekend for our sides in the South West Premier and South West 1 East, but there was action elsewhere with Slough and Drifters. SportsTALK: Danny’s double shoots down the Spitfires

This week's SportsTALK podcast discusses a week of highs and lows for our clubs. It was a largely positive afternoon for David Mobbs-Smith as he saw his side go five matches unbeaten with a 22-17 victory over Launceston on Saturday. The result leaves Maidenhead firmly in second place of the South West Premier.  Christoph Bart and Laurence Leonard also made their returns to the squad after lengthy spells out. Josh caught up with skipper Myke Parrott after the game to hear what he had to say on the afternoon and his side's opposition. On the contrast, Maidenhead United are now very much fighting to stay above the relegation zone having lost 5-2 on the road to Halifax Town at the weekend. Goals from Ryan Upward and Bernard Mensah weren’t enough to salvage the Magpies a result as the loss leaves them just two points above the relegation spots. The SportsTALK podcast unpick a weekend featuring a frustrating draw for Maidenhead United in the FA Trophy but a pleasing point for Windsor against Hellenic Premier Division leaders Westfields.  Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Halesowen Town forces the Magpies to replay the tie on Tuesday night (January 14) with a place in the third round up for grabs where Halifax Town await the victors.  At Stag Meadow, Windsor opened the scoring through Billy Montague’s instinctive strike but the visitors hit back just before half time to level the game. A thoroughly impressive team display snatched the Royalists a result against the league leaders. Josh was at the match to witness the action and spoke with a satisfied Mark Cooper after the game.  Elsewhere, Dan had a change of scenery and found himself back at school, reporting on Maidenhead Men’s 1sts’ important win against Richmond 2nds. With an injury and illness-plagued side, the Rebels settled for a draw, in a match that featured an impressive goal from the halfway line by Scott Davies. Dan caught up with joint-boss Jon Underwood after the match. Elsewhere, Josh paid a visit to Braywick Park in what was a game of two contrasting halves for Maidenhead RFC. He caught up with head coach, David Mobbs-Smith, and skipper Myke Parrott, after a thrilling match that saw Maids fight back for victory.
