Episode Eight: Risks and Rewards of Firewalking

Katie and her family raised £7,500 for the hospice that cared for her mum, £2,500 above their target, by organizing a fire walk in her memory. In this episode, Katie tells Chris Jones how friends and family brought the room to life, why the walk felt different from her earlier fundraiser for Shine, and how a flame tattoo became a daily reminder of her strength. She also shares the less-glamorous side of fundraising: slow donations, unanswered appeals to local businesses, and the value of persistence, a bigger team, and local media. It’s an intimate account of turning grief into a remarkable night of community and support.

The Firewalk Experience: A Journey of Trust and Transformation
In this episode, a chat between Chris Jones and Ellie Wallace, we dive deep into the life-changing experience of firewalking, undertaken during Talent Campus 9.0. Ellie, initially a complete skeptic who described herself as highly controlled and logical, shares her incredible journey from doubt to transformation. What makes this episode particularly compelling is her raw honesty about the process, from choosing a warrior name from her unpublished novel to that pivotal moment when she decided to walk fire. She beautifully describes feeling like she "became the Phoenix" during her firewalk, experiencing an almost floating sensation and a profound sense of rebirth. The real magic happened afterward though, when participants showed unprecedented vulnerability and emotional openness. "When we come off the firewalk, it's when we're most vulnerable, but we're also at our strongest." Ellie's biggest takeaway was learning to trust her instincts and embrace authentic connections with others, proving that sometimes the most transformative experiences come from stepping way outside our comfort zones. 00:00:00 Firewalking Inside Talent Campus00:02:02 Control, Logic and Why I Resisted00:04:35 The Question That Changed Everything00:06:13 Choosing Trust and Stepping Forward00:10:21 Letting Go of Limiting Beliefs00:17:31 Entering the Warrior State00:22:29 Walking the Fire and Rebirth00:31:06 How Firewalking Changes You00:46:10 Final Takeaways and Advice

Episode Four: Meet Kate Porter from St James School, Dudley, Raising over £13k

Breaking Boundaries: How a School Firewalk Turned Into an Epic Fundraising Success
Ever heard of a school PTA organizing a firewalk to raise money? Well, that's exactly what happened at North Ealing Primary School, and boy, did it pay off! In a fantastic display of community spirit and courage, parents and teachers came together to walk across hot coals, raising a whopping £11,000 in just one night. That's way more than their usual Christmas fair earnings! The whole thing kicked off when Mindy, the PTA chair, pitched this wild idea to the school leadership. You can imagine the raised eyebrows and concerned looks when she first suggested having people walk on fire! But thanks to Chris Jones from the Firewalk Experience and his rock-solid safety credentials, even the most cautious head teacher was convinced it could work. What really made this event special was how the kids got involved. They weren't doing the firewalk themselves (obviously!), but they became the event's biggest cheerleaders. The organizers even set up a Lego walk for the youngsters, giving them their own challenge to tackle. As Mindy put it, "If you don't get the kids on your side and the kids don't kind of push it forward, it won't work." Man, was she right! The kids basically became tiny marketing machines, pestering their parents to sign up. The training session before the big event was apparently quite something. Picture this: a bunch of nervous parents and teachers getting pumped up together, learning they could do something they probably never thought possible. It wasn't just about walking on fire - it was about pushing personal boundaries and showing their kids that facing fears head-on can lead to amazing achievements. When the actual firewalk happened, the atmosphere was electric. The kids were going absolutely bonkers, cheering on their parents and teachers like they were rock stars. As Mindy described it, "It was like having a home team supporters cheering you on." The energy was so infectious that even people who were scared out of their minds found the courage to step onto those hot coals. The success of this event wasn't just about the money raised (though £11,000 is nothing to sneeze at!). It brought the whole school community together in a way that traditional fundraisers never had before. It created lasting memories and showed everyone involved that sometimes the craziest-sounding ideas turn out to be the best ones. They're definitely planning to do it again, though they're smartly waiting a while to keep it special. And why not? When you've found a formula that works this well, you stick with it! The event also opened doors for other creative fundraising ideas. They're now thinking about adding things like animal handling experiences to keep future events fresh and exciting. It just goes to show that when it comes to school fundraising, thinking outside the box (way outside the box, in this case) can lead to some pretty amazing results. Who would've thought that walking on fire could bring a school community so close together while raising serious cash for a good cause? The kids basically became tiny marketing machines, pestering their parents to sign up.The training session before the big event was apparently quite something. When you've found a formula that works this well, you stick with it!The event also opened doors for other creative fundraising ideas. They're now thinking about adding things like animal handling experiences to keep future events fresh and exciting. It just goes to show that when it comes to school fundraising, thinking outside the box (way outside the box, in this case) can lead to some pretty amazing results. Episode Three: Meet Mindy from NEPS PTS... Raising over £10k

How a Cat Charity Used Firewalking to Transform Lives and Raise £9,000
Ever heard of someone walking on fire to help cats? Well, that's exactly what happened when Lucinda, the founder of Feline Fine Foundation, organized a firewalk fundraiser that brought in nearly £9,000 for her charity. But here's the thing - this story isn't just about walking on hot coals; it's about how one person's tough experience turned into a lifeline for hundreds of cats and their owners. Lucinda's story hits right in the feels. Three years ago, she was facing homelessness and the heart-wrenching possibility of having to give up her seven cats and dog. In her own words, "If I had to rehome them, I literally wouldn't be here today." That dark moment sparked something incredible - she decided to create a charity that would make sure nobody else would have to face that impossible choice. Fast forward to today, and Feline Fine Foundation has become a game-changer in the pet welfare world. They've helped around 300 cats so far, offering free foster care when their owners hit rough patches like domestic abuse situations, hospital stays, or even house fires. What's super cool about their approach is they never say no to helping people and their pets. For some folks, their cat is literally their only companion in the world, and Lucinda gets that on a deeply personal level. The recent firewalk fundraiser was a perfect example of Lucinda's go-getter attitude. She pulled the whole thing together in just three weeks (talk about pressure!), and it turned out way better than anyone expected. They were shooting for £5,000 but ended up raising almost double that. Even snooker legend Steve Davis got in on the action, not just walking on fire but also spinning some tunes afterward. How's that for a unique fundraising event? What really stands out about this whole story is how Lucinda's spontaneous, high-energy approach actually works in her favor. As she puts it, "Less planning is more. Gives people less time to panic." This philosophy seems to create this amazing momentum where people just want to jump in and help. The event wasn't just about raising money - it was about pushing boundaries and showing what's possible when people come together for a good cause. Looking ahead, there's talk about making this an annual thing - maybe even a "Firewalk for Felines" that brings together multiple cat charities. It's pretty inspiring to see how one person's personal crisis has evolved into this powerful force for good. The charity isn't just saving cats; it's helping people hold onto their furry family members during their toughest times, and that's making a real difference in people's lives. The whole story really shows how sometimes the best ideas come from our darkest moments. Lucinda turned her own potential tragedy into a mission that's helping hundreds of others avoid the same heart-breaking choice she almost had to make. And using firewalking as a fundraiser? That's just genius - it perfectly symbolizes how we can overcome our fears and do amazing things when we're motivated by love and compassion. Episode Two: Meet Lucinda from Feline Fine

When Skylarks charity decided to shake things up with their fundraising efforts, they didn't just think outside the box - they literally walked through fire! Their innovative firewalk event not only smashed their fundraising target but also created an amazing buzz around their organization. Initially hoping to raise £3,000, they ended up collecting over £4,000, with gift aid pushing that figure even higher to around £4,500. Talk about heating things up! The really cool thing about this event wasn't just the money raised - it was how it brought people together. Dee, the head of fundraising at Skylarks, had this brilliant idea to make the event super inclusive. While adults were getting pumped up for their firewalk, kids could participate in their own challenge - a Lego walk! This thoughtful touch really shows how Skylarks lives up to their motto of making everything accessible and inclusive for everyone. The preparation for the event was seriously impressive. They didn't just throw some coals on the ground and hope for the best! The team went all out with their promotion, hitting up social media, sending out press releases, and even landing a spot on Riverside Radio's breakfast show. This comprehensive approach helped them attract both their regular supporters and completely new faces to the event. What's really awesome is how the firewalk created this incredible sense of community. As Dee put it, "It pushes you to new levels in your mind and belief of what you can achieve." Participants from all walks of life came together, united by their desire to support Skylarks and push their personal boundaries. The pre-walk training session turned a group of nervous individuals into a tight-knit team ready to tackle the challenge together. The impact of the event went way beyond just one night of fundraising. Skylarks gained 20 new "friends for life" - supporters who are now deeply connected to their cause. These aren't just one-time donors; they're people who want to stay involved and help out with future events. That's the kind of long-term support that charities dream about! Perhaps the most telling sign of success is that people are already asking about the next firewalk. Even those who couldn't make it to the first event are eager to participate in future ones. Dee's advice to other charities thinking about organizing a firewalk? Just go for it! Sure, it might seem a bit scary at first (kind of like walking on fire!), but with good planning and the right support, it can be an incredible way to bring people together and raise funds for a good cause. The event also perfectly aligned with Skylarks' expansion plans, serving as a pre-launch celebration for their new center in Hounslow. It's pretty clever how they managed to combine fundraising, community building, and raising awareness about their new location all in one fiery package. This kind of strategic thinking shows how smaller charities can make a big impact with creative events that capture people's imagination and inspire them to get involved. This success story really shows how thinking differently about fundraising can lead to amazing results. It wasn't just about walking on fire - it was about creating an unforgettable experience that brought people together, pushed boundaries, and built lasting connections with their cause. As Dee says, "Everything we do at Skylarks is about inclusion, it's about access, it's about our families. It's bringing everyone in to feel part of it." Now that's what I call lighting a fire under traditional fundraising! Introduction & Welcome (00:00:04)Chris introduces Dee from Skylarks and sets the stage for the discussion about the fire walk event. First Impressions of the Fire Walk (00:00:20)Dee shares her initial thoughts and feelings about the fire walk event. Closing Remarks & Future Events (00:17:54)Chris and Dee discuss future fire walk plans and express gratitude to each other and their teams. Final Goodbyes (00:19:10)The episode concludes with thanks and farewells from all speakers. fire walk, The Fire Walk Experience, Skylarks charity, fundraising, children with additional needs, disabilities, challenge event, inclusive event, Lego walk, supporter relationships, engagement, fundraising success, charity events, community support, risk assessments, social media promotion, awareness building, volunteer opportunities, event planning, participant feedback, inner strength, corporate partners, long-term commitment, event logistics, fundraising targets, charity impact, Hounslow, empowerment, community involvement, family support, young people helping young people, event preparation, certificate of participation, local media coverage, charity support, fundraising advice, bespoke events, summer fire walk events, London charity events.
