Tu Lam came to the United States as a Vietnamese refugee when he was eight years old. Born in to wartime Vietnam under threat by the Communist north, his family eventually escaped by boat only to face pirates, starvation, and finally racism from Americans who were struggling with the United States involvement in the Vietnam war. But before he was even a teenager, he was exposed to the way of Budo; the Way of the Samurai. It would prove to be a way to face the darkness and set him on a path to become a warrior, and ultimately to find compassion, peace, and forgiveness.   Tu Lam served in the the United States Army for 23 years in the infantry, reconnaissance unit, special forces unit, combat search and rescue, combative, and special reconnaissance unit.
