In this episode we’re joined by fellow VisCom student Jack. Jack and I do the same university course and during our latest ‘group crit’ he expressed to the group that he was dyslexic. This obviously led onto me asking him to take part as a guest on the show. Jack very kindly was interested in sharing his story with us. In this episode, a fellow viscom student joins me to talk about her dyslexia journey. Iona’s testimony is one that is very relatable, she was also educated in a French education context in Bruxelles. The strictness of the french education system is something we can both relate to. Iona also used dyslexia as a topic to make work for university, she made a paper about what it’s like to be dyslexic and bilingual… Turns out we had loads in common !

In this episode I had a chat with an old friend of mine Adele. Adele and I were at the same secondary school together. Our school was a french school, so everything is taught in French by french teachers and all the pupils are french, in fact, most students don’t really speak english. In this episode we speak all things French Education and we have an amazing testimony from Adele about the struggles of being ‘different’ in such an environment. Adele also takes us on the journey of how she got to where she is now, studying business management at Kings.

In this episode, a colleague and friend of my mother’s joined me to talk about his dyslexia. Jon was one of the first and youngest children ever to be diagnosed with dyslexia in the mid-70s. His mother was a teacher and fought for Jon’s learning difficulties to be recognised. He was tested and given much specialist support in how to overcome this condition. This testament was really special because I had never heard of anything like it and because it gives an insight into Jon’s journey into his career as a copywriter.  He says that dyslexia was “taught out of him”.
