Proverb 15:9 tells us, The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves him who pursues righteousness. Consider the zeal of Phinehas in Num 25:10-18. He does so with the zeal of the Lord, (i.e. to disdain what God disdains, in favor of righteousness) and God commends him and gives him a covenant of salome. Perhaps we need to revisit our understanding of what salome is and how it applies to our life today. Afterall, it is part of the Beatitudes and the fruits of the spirit. Jesus made a covenant of salome with us in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. I think it has to do with it's oddness. It altogether challenges our nice tidy theology, by unpacking our theological box and strewing the pieces all over the floor. If that hasn't happened to you, perhaps you weren't paying attention. Balaam is never called a false prophet yet he uses the tools of divination, and many more. Three key points for us to take, I think would be these. 1. Way of Balaam: 2 Peter 2:15 a prophet for hire, willing to make religion the source of his wealth 2. Error of Balaam: Jude 1:11 being hired by the enemies of God and His people to curse them for Balak’s sake and money. 3. Doctrine of Balaam: Rev 2:14 spiritual unchastity and marriage with the world. Opening the door to unrighteousness will always lead to your downfall. 4. This leads to the blindness of Balaam. Self-imposed. The donkey has to intervene. This is one of the most peculiar decrees that God made, the sacrifice of the red heifer. So why this, and why tie it into leprosy. There is no one sacrifice, or remedy such as the bronze serpent, or model like the Tabernacle, that can fully embody the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. Korach leads a rebellion against God's elect chosen one, Moses. Remember that this is specified in many places, Num. 12 being the most recent. Korach seeks to take his place as the priest to the people, and equate himself and all the people as holy. There are only two places in the Bible that talk about being thrown alive into the pit or Sheol. One is here in Num. 16:32-33, and Rev 19:20-21, 20:1-3. The beast, the false prophet, and the dragon. This is counter-intuitive. When God says that he is going to take us somewhere or bring us into a place, don’t try to do his work for Him. He just might agree to let you. Abraham listened and obeyed. Without knowing anything, he was sent and he went. Abraham's obedience was counted as righteousness. As opposed to those in the wilderness that relied on their own sight first. As "New Testament Christians" we often have a hard time connecting the dots. It is understandable because these things are foreign to us. God gave a shadow/type of Yeshua to come in absolute detail. And yet this mystery of the pattern in the Heavens eludes us. The Jews are no stranger to the menorah, but this connection eludes them also. James 1:17 says this, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Are we seeing any new insights here? The most famous verse in the Bible is based on this same idea. John 3:16 For God (The Father of Lights) so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (The Light of the world whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Adventures in Torah, Ep #38, 5779 - Beha'alotcha - When You Set Up

It is remarkable how we as Christians will talk about almost anything, except the Bible. We will listen to the pastor (most of the time), we will listen to teachers at Bible study, we will listen to Christian TV, but we won’t listen to each other. I have rarely ever come across two or three people just talking about the Bible, especially not in church. This must change. What Is It? Ministry is dedicated to always asking the question, what is it?. An ancient and systematic method of approaching God’s word allows us to ask this question at least once a week. It was designed to keep the entire nation of Israel on the same page and allowed people to talk with each other pertaining to scripture. They did not have to be a rabbi, a pastor, or a theologian to engage the scripture. All they had to do was talk to each other and find out what the passage meant to their neighbor and then say what it meant to them. A process of discovery was born, designed to keep us in His way.
