For breast cancer awareness month I talk with Elana Silber, the CEO of Sharsheret. She shares what we need to know about our own risk for developing breast and ovarian cancers and what we can do about it, what the Holocaust has to do with cancer, and we discuss genetic testing for cancer risk. Elana Silber, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, is a graduate of the Mount Sinai Hospital/CUNY Masters in Business Administration Program and a graduate of Yeshiva Universtiy's Stern College for Women. She joined the organization as a volunteer in its earliest days and has been a staff member since 2003. Elana has led Sharsheret’s growth from a handful of volunteers to a national organization and today has overall strategic and operational responsibility for Sharsheret’s staff, programs, and growth nationwide. Elana serves as Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women, providing advice and guidance to the Secretary, HHS, and the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regarding the formative research, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based activities designed to prevent breast cancer (particularly among those at heightened risk) and promote the early detection and support of young women who develop the disease. She shares what it’s like to feel connected to an infant she hadn’t birthed, how that changed when they got older, and how she manages when one of her children says she doesn’t want to be a part of the family. Chavie Bruk was raised in San Antonio, studied at Chicago’s Lubavitch Girls High School and graduated from Beth Chana Seminary in Tzfat, Israel. In 2006 she married Rabbi Chaim and one year later they founded Chabad Lubavitch of Montana in Bozeman. We cover the basics & address your questions. Rachel Tuchman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over ten years of experience. She has worked with many diverse populations including incarcerated women at Riker's Island Correctional Facility, kids and adults with developmental delays, kids with behavior issues, overwhelmed parents looking for skills and support, teens struggling with the pressures of adolescence and life in general, adults going through difficult life circumstances (divorce, infidelity, phase of life challenges) and women experiencing infertility.   Currently, she offers services in her Cedarhurst, NY office for kids and teens ages 5-18, adults, and women experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss and post hysterectomy. Hi, I'm Rivky Itzkowitz I’m the founder and designer at Impact Fashion and I’m the host here at Be Impactful, the show about women making an Impact in their own corners of the world. I started Impact Fashion in November of 2016 so that the modest minded women in my community could feel empowered to put their best foot forward every day, regardless of their size. In the process of growing my business I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with women of all different types and from all different fields.
