The Prayer of Jesus

There is a constant battle being waged within us between the Spirit and our flesh. Sin is a very present reality in the life of the believer. We are exhorted to put to death the deeds of the flesh and to not make provision for them. We are empowered by the Spirit to do this. We are reminded we have received the Spirit of adoption as children of God and fellow heirs with Christ.

Jesus is the Word of God written to us in one man. He claims to be THE only Way to the Father. No matter the situation we may be in, we are safe when we are in Him. Jesus and the Father are one.

I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Christ comes to bring life to the lifeless. John shows us conclusively that Jesus, the man in the flesh is the Son of God. Jesus is the life giver. "I am the Resurrection and the Life..." Eternal life comes only through the Son of God. Meaning the Person of Jesus, not an abstract concept is actually our life. Our call today is to turn to Him, not to seek what He can do for us. The question is "Do you believe this...?"

In this sermon, Pastor Dawson Hunt explores two statements from Jesus, "I am the Door" and "I am the Good Shepherd" both stemming from one metaphor. Jesus compares us to sheep. Sheep wonder off; they are always in need of intimate care by the shepherd. At night, shepherds used to guard the entrance to the sheepfold literally with their own body, thus acting as "the door..." In that context, Jesus calls Himself "the door" and "the good shepherd." We are called to trust the sacrificial shepherd, the one who laid out His life for us.

"Who do people say the Son of Man is...?" Asked Jesus...A more important question was asked afterwards: "But who do you say I am...?" he asked Peter. Peter's response and Jesus' subsequent remarks help us understand who Peter is in relation to Jesus. Jesus is The Builder and Peter is a foundation stone, but a stone no more no less. In other words, the church belongs to Jesus and Peter is part of the building.

You Are the Christ

No one can stand before God trusting on his/her own merits. Scripture tells us "...for all have sinned and fallen short". God's purpose for trials in our lives is to bring us to a place of brokenness, to show us we can't cope on our own and then He embraces us. All that God requires from us is to trust in Him, to run to Him and not away from Him, even (or especially) when we sin. Egypt and Assyria were traditional enemies of Israel and were given a share of God's inheritance together with Israel. There are no longer Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free, all are united as one people in Jesus' body at the Cross.

From Every Tribe

Just as prophesied by Joel in the Old Testament, the day of Pentecost signaled the outpouring of the Spirit over all flesh. We are living on "the last days" and the harvest has begun. Jesus is calling His people to work with Him in the harvest.

In the tower of Babel, mankind was disintegrated and dispersed; and language got confused so people would not understand each other. In Pentecost, mankind was reunified and reintegrated. "The gift of tongues" was made so that again people could understand each other.

Humans fail, but it's God who is at work. God's work continues through the Gospel. The Apostle Paul shows us what to do to remain faithful, pleasing God not man.

Gospel Ministry

It's about knowledge and how having the right knowledge leads us to intimacy with our Savior. There is a difference between knowing about God and actually knowing Him. In the end, our goal is to be known by Him.

Epistemological Fidelity

Jesus claims to be the Light of the World. In the Bible, "darkness" is a picture of sin, ignorance and or disbelief. Jesus comes to bring light to the darkness. Whosoever follows Jesus will not walk in darkness.
