Let me tell you a true story about my coach. You are painting the picture of what the remainder of this year is going to look like by what you are choosing to believe about yourself, your vision and your life. Your thoughts create your reality. Resist the urge to believe every thought that you think. Your brain's job is to automate what you repeatedly tell it. You read that… right? Imagine this: your perception of life is like a movie screen and your brain is the projector. It’s going to play the story line you have written. Write the story you want! It’s that simple. Write a happy ending, not a horror story. Rise up and choose to take back control of your thoughts. Forewarning: I’m just a little passionate about this subject.  So, I’m just going to come right out and say it: you’re being sold something that doesn’t serve you.  No, I’m not talking about that product your next-door-neighbor sells as a side hustle.  I’m talking about the idea of “working on your mindset”.  Honestly, what does that actually mean?  The concept of “mindset” has become so polluted and overused in the marketplace. The reality is, if you want to be successful in your business and life, you have to understand that creating success is not about “working on your mindset” with wishing, hoping, and trying harder. Instead, shifting your mindset begins with understanding the way your brain works and training your thoughts to reflect your reality. You must purposefully step in to train your brain what and how to think. In this episode of the Epic Success Podcast, I go into a bit of a rant, but it’s all for your benefit. I’ve been watching common messaging around mindset online and it gets me impassioned, because there is actual science behind how to control your thinking. Mindset relies too much on willpower, which will fatigue like any other overused muscle. If you’re ready to step into the empowered position of training your brain instead of wishing and hoping for a prescribed mindset, let me show you how.  The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are:   “It’s not about mindset. It’s about training your brain.”    It’s your brain’s job to keep you safe, not successful. You must become purposeful and take the lead in hardwiring your brain for success. “Mindset” is something that is being sold to you but that isn’t serving you. It relies on willpower. Listen in to hear why mindset work is not the most efficient use of your time and attention. [4:09]   “Nothing is a setback. Everything happens for you.”   But… you cannot just say “everything happens for me” and believe it without the brain priming that gives your brain direction for what you want to happen. You must build the neural-pathways to bring you the success you define and desire. [6:36]   “Your subconscious mind doesn’t think on its own. It does what you tell it to over and over again.”   That’s why you get stuck - when you don’t purposefully tell your brain what you want through brain priming. Therefore, the brain’s only option is to then fall back on old and familiar thought patterns that no longer serve you. When you really start to use these tools and put the power of the brain to work for you, you see your relationships, health, environment, and business improve. [11:04] Your breakthrough is so much closer than you realize.  The only thing that’s holding you back is the way you think: your automatic programming and how you’re training your brain towards your future. The person you were always intended to be is there inside of you. Mindset is Not the Answer with Dr. Shannon Irvine

Do you consider yourself successful?  In your business?  In your income?  In your relationships?  How would we answer these questions if we were honest with ourselves?  As entrepreneurs, we often sacrifice things that are super important in our lives for the idea that once I arrive at ‘x’ figure, or once I get this promotion, or once I get to this place in my business…  …then I will reach my definition of success. …and then I can finally show up and have those moments that I’ve been missing. But then the sense of urgency steals the joy of it, because those moments are slipping away.  This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I’m talking about leaning into untapped potential and how your brain wires and fires actual success. There is a key difference between those who are living a limitless life (limitless business growth, limitless impact, and limitless relationship satisfaction) and those who constantly feel a cap on their ability to reach new levels. If you’re feeling capped in one, or all of these departments, I’ve got good news for you: there is a systematic, strategic success system operating in your mind that you might not have connected with yet.  Ready to access it? Let’s dive in. The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are:   “We’ve been indoctrinated into this outside-in model of success that was broken and it doesn’t work.”    If you feel tired, or even exhausted, from not hitting your true potential it’s because you’re part of this stop-start-cycle! It’s what I like to call “stressed success”. We start something, go all in on this thing, whatever it is. You start, but then hit a roadblock. And we start searching for someone to give us permission or validation to move past it. [6:31]   “If the lie of ‘work harder, work harder, work harder’ were true, you would already be living a limitless life.”   You’ve worked hard. You’ve committed yourself and sacrificed and still feel far from the finish line. It’s because hard work doesn’t equal success. You have everything in your brain to wire it for success, and it starts with what you think, not what you do. [10:30]    “Your brain has to see it before you believe it.”    You cannot get to your true success without slowing down long enough to ask yourself, “What does a limitless life actually look like?” When you think about what your true, God-given potential is, you can picture your life in limitless standards. [18:26] Are you slowing down long enough to show your mind, and your heart, where it is that you’re going?  What is that definition of success for you? Don’t sacrifice all of those important moments to cross a finish line that you didn’t choose for yourself.  I challenge you today to unpack what that success looks like. Choose your success. Choose your path to get there.  Maintain momentum.  You are limitless. P.S. Are You Reaching Your Full Potential? with Dr. Shannon Irvine

Can we talk for a minute about the illusion of balance?  Especially in 2021, it feels like we are busier than ever.  We have multiple interests and responsibilities to juggle, and no amount of color-coded calendars will give us the elusive “balance” we really want.  The truth is, we don’t know what balance is, we just know we don’t have it. It’s about doing the right things at the right time.”    When you do the right things at the right time, you actually feel that sense of balance that you’ve been looking for. Not only do you feel balanced in the moment, you shake the guilt for all of the things you’re NOT doing.    [6:20]    “Priorities have a season.”    Not everything is a priority all of the time. There will be seasons of your life where certain things that typically feel like a priority will have to take a backseat. This is hard for many people (myself included) to swallow in a world where we’ve been indoctrinated to do it all, all of the time. This means you shouldn’t consider yourself a failure when you’re doing what is right, right now.  [8:20] Disclaimer: you will still have days where you have multiple things that you love very much competing for your attention. You will have to make a choice, and it will not feel easy.  Your season and your circumstances will help you determine what is right at the right time.  You have to stop focusing on where you are not, and instead choose to keep your attention where your feet are. The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are: “You need to define what success means to YOU.”  What does it mean to be successful for you? And what does it mean to feel successful every day? Listen to this episode for a crucial brain-based exercise where you will picture yourself as successful and write down some important details . Make sure you tune in to this part, because this is where it all starts.  [7:35] “Make sure you plan out your days the night before, with 3 things you need to complete to call the day a success.” This starts the night before. When you have a clear vision for the next day, write down your three non-negotiable things that absolutely must get done. In the morning, when you’re looking at your notes from the night before, if those three things are still priorities (nothing else has come up), then schedule them in your planner. See the next step ;)  [17:01]   “Time block and schedule your to-do list!”   Do you know how highly successful entrepreneurs get things crossed off their to-do list? They put it in their schedule! They take their top three important tasks to complete, and block out a few hours of their day to complete those tasks. This allows you to have scheduled time to commit to these priorities. You don’t schedule meetings during that time or wander off to complete other tasks. Commit to the time you’ve assigned for those priorities.  [18:00] It was hard to pick just a few key points to highlight in this episode, so make sure you dig into the entire episode and take notes on each of the nine steps of this plan!  Bottom Line: You can have stress and achievement in a way that isn’t stressful or overwhelming.  This Powerhouse Productivity™ Plan is such an impactful tool that allows us to get HOURS back in our day. How I Gained 3 Hours Back in my Day with Dr. Shannon Irvine

We’ve been talking a lot about habits here recently.  You might be wondering: “How do I create a good habit that actually sticks?” Committing to creating a successful habit is easier said than done. Motivation is flimsy at times and willpower doesn’t necessarily hold out when we need it to. But habits don’t come from motivation or willpower. They come from commitment and repetition. They come from pushing through weak or even non-existent motivation. They come from reminding yourself of your “why” and using that to take the next step. This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I dive deep into harnessing the power of your brain to create lasting habits. I’m taking the mystery out of habit change! We will look at how our brains are wired and how that knowledge can help you finally kick old habits to the curb and adopt those healthy and productive habits you desperately need in order to create the life and business you really want. If you’re ready to take control of your habits and daily routine, grab something to write with and listen in! The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are: “YES - You can create the habits that you want in your life.”  It’s a matter of knowing what your repeated mental states are and what that does in the brain. Anything that we repeat over time becomes a neural trait, and the more we repeat it, it becomes more ingrained in our brain, and the more it becomes automatic. [3:34] “The first time you go to do something new, especially if it’s replacing something that already has a pattern set up, your dopamine response comes after the event.” When you get your willpower all charged up to attempt the new habit, your dopamine response doesn’t come until after the event. Waiting for the dopamine each time you attempt the new habit can make it harder to complete, but let me tell you: each time you complete that habit, your dopamine will release earlier and earlier, making it easier to complete when your willpower is weak. [11:55]   “If you're serious about getting this habit change done, do it first thing in the morning!”   If you wait until the end of the day to try and work in that new habit, you’ll come up with every excuse in the book because your willpower (just like a muscle) is tired from being exercised all day. It’s depleted. This is why relying on willpower alone won’t get you the habit change you’re after. You have to commit to consistency. [18:44] Remember: you control your thoughts! And your thoughts control your habits.  Creating habits and routines that work for you, and being C O N S I S T E N T with them is where you will see success. When your motivation is withering, you’ll be able to lean on the firm foundation of the habits and routines you’ve put into place. Take this science and have it work for you today and write down the 5 habits you’d like to change or add and prioritize them.  Use the science you’ve learned and start with 1 habit.  You’ve got this.  P.S. The Brain Science of Habit Mastery with Dr. Shannon Irvine

Did you know, on average, a person makes over 30,000 decisions in a single day?  And that’s just on average.  As an entrepreneur, you’re faced with even more decision making as you navigate building your business. Do you feel you just react to things that happen in your business and then quickly decide based on your emotions in that given moment? Or even feel like you can’t decide at all?  … I’ve been guilty of this too... And I know from personal experience that it can often feel like things are happening to us, leaving us feeling wildly out of control. As much as I know you are wanting to become the creator of your thoughts and life, it can often feel like the decisions you’re faced with are largely out of your control. Truth is, those decisions that you’re making are created from thoughts, and you have 100% control over your thoughts. All your decisions create your reality.  This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I want to empower you to take control of your decisions by taking control of your thoughts. There is magic when you decide what you no longer want to believe, then take actionable steps to start building new neural-pathways so that you can adopt the beliefs you want in your life. If you’re ready to shift from excuses to empowering decisions and actions, buckle up and listen in! The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are: “You are always deciding to advocate for either your limiting beliefs or future self.”  You are always advocating for the decision that will either take you to where you want to be or keep you held back. You’re always deciding how you perceive success, failure, love, money - everything. The interpretation that you give each situation is a decision. [2:46] “Deciding in advance gives your brain what it needs in order to help you continue to make that decision become reality.” You’ve got to decide in advance how you’re going to fail, how you’re going to show up, how you’re going to navigate challenges. Why? Because if you want a life you’ve never had before, you have to do things you’ve never done before. If you really want that new reality to stick, you’ve got to start by building neural-networks of success in your brain. [6:11]   “How you perceive every good and not-so-good thing in your life - the interpretation you give it is a decision.”   The key to building neural-networks for success in your brain is to understand that everything is an interpretation and that you get to decide. You can then interpret things through the filter that you want to versus just the filter that’s been there since childhood. [7:11] The only thing holding you back is the story you’re deciding to believe that is not serving you anymore.  It’s time to go out and decide today what it is you really want and take one action towards it.  Start training your brain now and take even one step towards what you want (think your business, or your family, or your life).   This will create the momentum, and then the success you’re after. Control Your Thoughts, Control Your Reality with Dr. Shannon Irvine

Do you ever notice that some days it all clicks and aligns and you feel like you’re thriving? Those days are the best.  But then why is it that there are so many other days you feel like you’re striving to survive and make it all work? Well, I’ll tell you a secret. It’s normal to always be learning and evolving.  The key is to check in with ourselves, ask better questions and keep moving towards our next-level self.  You know, that version of you that’s not chasing the validation of value but instead adding value to others from a place of abundance.  This week’s episode of the Epic Success Podcast is all about choosing your way of being. The difference between these two ways of being - thriving versus striving - comes down to two things: our mindset and our focus.  Are you ready to transform your daily mindset? Let’s dive deeper... The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are: “You can’t make transformation happen through working harder and striving.” I know, this is the opposite of what society and culture is teaching you. Stick with me.The first key to seeing transformation in your business starts in your mind. Are you focused on doing, striving, and staying on the move but find you are not actually moving forward? This is a fixed mindset that will limit your success despite how hard you are working. Focus on transforming your thoughts to reflect a growth mindset. Keep moving forward and remember - failing is inevitable and can be our biggest teacher. [2:15] “If we’re going to grow our business to 6 and 7 figures, we’ve got to grow our thinking to get us there.” Ask yourself the questions: what is this bringing to me? How is this serving me and allowing me to serve others? Will this allow me to grow? The antithesis to a growth mindset is perfectionism. Ditch the hardwired story of “I don’t have what it takes” or “I’m not good enough” and allow yourself to view every step of your journey as an opportunity to learn, grow and serve. [13:40] “I’m 100% responsible 100% of the time.” The second key to transformation is external versus internal focus of control. An external focus of control blames everything around you. An internal focus of control takes responsibility for everything. When you come from an internal focus of control, you ask “what can I learn and what can I take from it into the future to become better, stronger, faster, smarter?” Things will happen to you which may be out of your control - how you perceive those things happening, is the difference between being taken out of the game or growing to the next best version of yourself. [18:54] It’s vital to understand that circumstances don’t control us. If you have a growth mindset with an internal focus of control, you can ask better questions and become the creator of your thoughts.  Everything around you is for you - as long as you are open, asking the right questions, listening and ready to take your thinking to the next level.  Everything you need is completely within you. Step into the growth mindset and remember that every lesson that comes to you is an invitation to become the best version of yourself. P.S. Habits.  We all have them.  Some of them, like daily exercise, are habits we want to build or maintain.  Others, like staying up too late, are habits we’d like to break.  Trying to create a new routine with positive and productive habits can seem difficult to maintain on the surface, but when you look at the brain science behind building a habit (or breaking one) it’s not as daunting as you might think.  This week on the Epic Success podcast, I’m sharing how habit success is an inside job. One thing I know from my studies of NeuroPsychology is that becoming successful, in business AND life, is a result of the daily habits of what you think. It all comes back to my brain-based NeuroCoaching Model™, which I’m giving you a peek of in today’s episode!  Are you ready to learn how to hack your brain to create habits that work for you, and your business?  The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are: “A habit is just a decision repeated over time, just like a belief is just a thought repeated over time.” A habit starts in the mind with what you’re allowing your brain to think. From your thoughts and beliefs you make decisions and actions, which turn into habits over time. Successful people are those with effective habits that drive their daily routine. So, if you want something different in your life and business, then you need to train your brain to control your thought patterns first. [3:15]   “Wake up every day postured to lean into your intention and put your mind in a state where you will be the creator of your thoughts and put everything in your calendar.”   We’re told that forming a habit takes 21 days, but that just isn’t the case - I’ve got brain scans to prove it ;) . After training your brain for 21 days, the neural networks in your brain for the old habit and the new habit are exactly the same in strength. At that time, you have a choice to go back to the old habit or continue to build the new, desired habit. You might be surprised how long it really takes to build a new habit - tune in to find out.  [6:36] “We’ve got over 30 neurochemicals that can be working for you towards these habits.” One hack you can do to make habit building easier is to put a calendar up where you can physically mark off each of the 67 days as you build the new neural networks to create your new habit. Your brain loves that and rewards you with more positive neurochemicals! [9:14] You are in control of your brain, which controls your habits. And the good news is you can take it one habit at a time, one day at a time.  The key to removing old neural networks and creating new ones is consistency. Don’t worry about the 67 days for your new habit - just wake up each day and focus on your thoughts for that one day. Consistency day by day creates momentum! Building Effective Habits to Grow Your Business with Dr. Shannon Irvine

We talk about money here all the time.  We talk about money stories and automations in your brain that cause you to think a certain way about money.  And if you grew up with any kind of background in faith, you might have some really broken stories around what money is, what it isn’t, and what it really means in the Kingdom of God.  This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I talk with my dear friend and founder of Dream Factory Co., Adam Flores. One of Adam’s super powers is helping faith-based entrepreneurs step into their biblical principles around success and money!  This is an impactful episode for entrepreneurs with a biblical background. I can’t wait to dive in!  The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are:   “The spirit of poverty is an outside voice of the enemy getting you to believe what you’re lacking.” [2:58]   An example of this is from The Garden. Adam and Eve are in this world full of abundance and the enemy was able to narrow their sights on the thing they lacked. How often are we focusing on what we are lacking instead of our blessings?    “Success is not just breaking through with mindset, it’s also learning how to break your circumstances.” [12:14]   If you’re in a season of oppression right now in your life, whether that is physical, spiritual, marital, or emotional, one of the things to ask God is to reveal what is really happening in your life. So often we zoom in so close on what is happening to us that we can’t see past it to what God is calling us toward in this part of our life.     “It’s not just scripture, it’s how God wired our physical beings.” [19:12]   Our brain has to believe something in order to create it. It can’t create a new reality based on us faking a belief. So our neurochemicals don’t fire until we speak things out as if they already exist. It’s always wild to me that this isn’t just spiritually wired, but God designed our brains that way.  You’re not battling with yourself, you’re battling with the spirit of poverty which is generational. The environment we grew up in, whether it was amazing or hell-on-earth, or somewhere in between - it doesn’t matter. Someone else’s truth about money, failure, worth, and success became your automations. These beliefs were repeated enough to be automated in your brain.  So how do we break past a poverty mindset and rewire our brain (and our money story) for success?  We have to call out the lie from the enemy that is causing us to live with a spirit of poverty. The lie has been repeated… it is automated… It’s now hardwired.   But it’s not over. God has given us the science to change that automation and escape the lie from the enemy and live in the Truth, which God reveals to us when we spend time with him.  And, once you know the truth, you’re able to refute the lie and rewire that path in your brain to automate success.  What a powerful conversation with Adam! Breaking the Spirit of Poverty with Adam Flores

If you’re in the world of business, you are familiar with copy and messaging.  As business owners, the goal is to deliver our message to potential clients in a way that makes working with us a no-brainer.  But in a world with every bit of information at your client’s fingertips, how do you make your messaging stand out?  How do you avoid the easy route of mimicking someone else’s message and truly delivering your own?  This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I talk with messaging and copywriting expert, Ray Edwards. Ray is a best selling author who has a talent for speaking (and writing) in a way that gets your unique message out into the marketplace. His new book How to Write Copy that Sells (aka my copy bible) is an incredible tool that teaches how to narrow in on your central message.  Did you grab something to take notes with? Because you’ll want to jot down these actionable takeaways. Let’s dive in!  The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are:   “Anybody can follow the framework and fill in the blanks and you’ll get pretty good results, maybe, but what makes you stand out is if you have a point of view.”     That’s the real secret: a unique message that's important to you. It might be the thing that you’re least comfortable talking about, because it’s your unique pivot point in the universe that only you can represent. You have a message that will resonate with a certain group of people, but only if they hear your actual message and not the one you think you should be given. [1:54] “It’s not about what you think it should be about. It’s about the thing under the thing.” Like the Avengers. It seems to be about superheroes, but it’s really not. It’s about us. Each of us has these weird abilities that only we have. That’s the thing under the thing. And if you can talk about that, you will capture people’s attention in a way that no copy tricks or hacks will ever do. [6:30]   “How do we turn ‘story’ into something that helps us get people to move along the path to a decision that is in their best interest? Practice.”    Break free of the lie that you are not a good storyteller. You just haven’t practiced. You can use the stories you have, those lived experiences, to connect to your clients. Your story might be about you, but how you turn that into copy and messaging is by making it about your clients. [28:30]  Why are we so afraid to put our own “thing under the thing” out there into the world?  Because it’s our place of greatest vulnerability, our place of greatest insecurity. The brain is designed to keep us alive and safe and to avoid vulnerability.   But in vulnerability, you’ll find connection.  To get the message across in your business, you have to understand what your message is and what your unique experience is.  There are thousands of other people who teach you how to write and communicate in your business, but there is only one person with your unique perspective on it and that’s you.  You have to be okay with people seeing you, and not the image you’d like to project.  Something shifts in your brain when you show up without having to edit.
