Building Your Offer and Freebies with Erika McCallister

On today’s episode, I am talking with Christine Blubaugh. Christine is a magical message maker, copywriter, and funnels and website expert. We are talking about empowering coaches. We discuss how you get seen, known as an expert, and hired. We also discuss how to nail down your key message and get comfortable with sharing your message. When you nail down your message and know your ideal client, the words will come.   In Today’s Episode: [02:45] Christine is a copywriter. She started an online business as a health coach and then in 2016 she switched her business to copywriting to better utilize her skills.   [03:19] Christine’s approach is to really help her clients build connections with their audience through their messaging, so when it comes to selling it kind of takes care of itself.   [05:57] The reason why you are trying all the things and it isn’t working is because they are teaching you tactics. They can be effective, but in order to be helpful and effective, they have to be based on your message.   [06:26] If you don’t have the foundational pieces put together and completely solidified all those strategies and tactics will fall flat.   [06:58] Your niche is the problem that you solve and the person that you solve that problem for.  [08:05] What is my ideal client intentionally searching for on Google, YouTube, and Pinterest? [08:32] Once you have an understanding of their main problem and who you solve that problem for, the next step is to really think about that person you are solving that problem for.  [10:14] Understanding your ideal client avatar is the first step to creating a super solid and clear message.  [11:55] If we had a hidden camera following your ideal client around for a day, what would we see?  [13:34] Get really specific and know all the details of your ideal client.  [14:32] The second thing is that you need to be really clear on what it is you are actually selling.  What is your offer, program, or service and how does it solve the problem for them?    [15:15] If they are stuck on struggle island and you want to get them to the tropical paradise, your offer is the bridge that is going to get them across there.   [18:31] Webinars, Facebook ads, and social media are like the walls, shingles, and decorations of your house, but you are not going to put any of that up until you have laid the foundation.      [20:23] The real clarity comes once you start sharing your message and getting feedback and then making adjustments.   [21:40] Perfection isn’t a thing and improvement comes from the sharing.   [23:19] At every level, people need help clarifying their message. You are always refining your message.  [24:47] The third part is your story. How did you come to do the work you do? Why does it matter to you and why are you passionate about helping people?  [25:31] It is not your entire story. It is your process including your before and after stories.   [26:01] Be clear on your why, the steps you took to get where you are, and be willing to share that openly.  [30:39] Test your message. Think Local to Find Your Next Client

We have to be honest with ourselves and talk about our behind the scenes effort. What does it take to stay above the water during times of uncertainty? We need to be open and honest with ourselves and open and honest with those around us. For instance, I need to watch motivational videos until I’m ready to go. Although, sometimes, I still feel like shit, like I’m not enough, or like I’m too much. I get so wrapped up in overthinking that my stomach hurts and I feel sick. We are all on the frontline, so what is our job? We are the frontline in our homes and our communities. We don’t have to perfect. The silver lining of this for me is that I can make the change. When I’m up against the wall, I know that I need to make a change. When we don’t change, there will be death. Everyone is at a loss; we need to honor that. Instead of being perfect on social media, I need to talk about how hard these uncertain times have been for me. I don’t want to apologize for how I show up – I decided a long time ago that I would not feed into the bullshit of this world. I failed in these last two weeks; I have to remember the people that led a path for me. Those people never apologize for going in too deep and too dark. Are You Feeling Uneasy About Your Truth?

Jessica Freeman is an award-winning graphic and web designer that helps health and fitness business owners build authority and get more clients. When she's not working with clients, you can find her teaching inside her Better Collective community and Work Your Website challenges. Jess has been featured in over 50 different podcasts and publications and also runs her own YouTube channel and her podcast, The Digital Lounge. In this episode, Jessica Freeman explains the importance of a simple website and how you can start with just a landing page. Squarespace has cover pages, which include only a photo and a few paragraphs. If you only have a landing page, you can still start collecting email addresses from it. Make sure that your message is unambiguous. People in the health and fitness industry get caught up in the broad message; stand out by niching down. Our websites are always evolving. Once you launch your website, that is just the beginning. We can make our marketing super simple with a pdf or a YouTube link. After all, we need to focus on the big picture. A group would be the best-case scenario. Post your videos to the group and start building a community. Every time your audience has a question, write it down, and use it on your website. Make sure to pay attention to how people are talking on your social media and emails. It makes creating content so much easier. Jessica explains why we need to simplify our offers. We can have multiple options; however, it makes it easier to market with fewer options. Currently, we are going back to old school marketing. It's the back offers that matter, the ones you mention when you are on the phone with someone. Coaches think they can fix every different problem – we need a place to start. What is the hero's journey? Once you figure that out, you can start designing your offers. We have the freedom, and we make money when we engage. Even though everything is digital, it doesn't mean we can be hands-off. People won't just arrive at your blog. They will arrive at your blog when you have great SEO and an excellent website. The funnel and the bot aren't going to do the engagement work for you – we still have to talk to people. It can be discouraging when you don't have traffic on your website. For instance, a coach might get bummed out when only ten people visit their website in a day. We have to remember those are ten actual people! What if you introduced yourself to those ten people and got them on the phone? You would have a thriving business! Some people don't have a huge list, but maybe their Facebook group will bring enough referrals. Keep your approach simple. The simplest way to rock business, in the beginning, is by creating content. Content marketing is valuable because people on social media are there because they are bored. When people find you on Google, they are looking intently. That’s why it’s not as essential to focus on social media. Create content around your most shared videos. Jessica started creating content videos on her iPhone. All of her videos were in one minute or less. Your content videos do not need to be ten minutes or longer! Remember, keep it simple and make sure there are actionable steps for your audience. How is Your Website Bringing in More Clients?

39: Are You Selling from the Soul?

Amanda Genther joins the show. Amanda is a designer and online marketing strategist, and she helps female entrepreneurs write, design, and launch sales pages that stand out and sell. Amanda is also the host of the Inspired for Action podcast, where she shares strategies, tips, and advice on how to take imperfect action every day to grow your business. In this episode, Amanda opens the show explaining why she doesn’t want to add to the noise online. People are way too repetitive. When creating a sales page, Amanda says to start in the middle because the top section is where you are going to do the most work. If Amanda tells someone to start at the top, then she knows they aren’t going to do the work. The top of the page takes the most work! So many people try to skip the hard part. There are two ways to build an online business: You build an audience first, then put an offer in front of them. You create an offer, then you try and find an audience. Amanda always creates an offer first, then asks people what they need. Amanda utilizes a yearly survey and coffee chats in order to find out how she can assist her audience best. What Amanda taught back in 2012 is so different than what she teaches now. She would have never shifted if she wasn’t listening to her audience. Plus, our audience is always changing – we are continually filtering people in and out. Then, Amanda speaks about how we can make money during times of uncertainty. Amanda makes all of her money from a $37 product, which includes an order bump. On a $37 core offer, Amanda has a $57 average cart value. She has been able to push out Facebook ads and get orders every single day from people who have no idea who she is. As long as Amanda is spending less than $20 per lead, she is making money. Last month, they made over $20,000 on a $37 product. A sales funnel won’t work if part of the sequence isn’t working for your audience. It all comes back to having a strategy and a purpose. Just because a funnel works for someone, doesn’t mean it will work for you. It is all about your audience; what are they looking for? 38: How To Pivot Online to Make Money with Amanda Genther

How do you build trust in an online world? In this episode, I talk about creating a value ladder to build trust with potential clients. The value ladder should start with free content. The free content can be in various forms: Social media Blogging A live video A training series When you see the customer value ladder, you will see different traffic sources. You will want to have a lead magnet. Your lead magnet can be a 30-minute class or a prerecorded video series. That freebie should be a mini solution to your client’s problem. Ask yourself these questions when creating a value ladder: What do I want to be known for? What are the pillars of my business? What does my ideal client want? What are my ideal client’s struggles? How can I turn my ideal client’s pain into a product? Brainstorm your free offers. Find out what your potential clients are attracted to. Then, bring your potential client to your low-cost offer. The low-cost offer should feed into email one and email two. Make the email simple and explain what your offer will entail. You can also bring your clients to a webinar or a challenge. Once your client is at the low-cost offer, now it’s time to upsell. I love to get people on the phone. You can upsell to a masterclass, courses, webinars, or a Facebook group. Then, you can even upsell again. Think about how you can meet people where they are so you can naturally upsell. I built my business in a recession.
