Today we are considering how we can build our lives on Jesus as our Rock. We will look at Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and discuss how Jesus, who most definitely is the best preacher of all time, closed His famous sermon with the analogy of building our lives on a rock. In fact, this section of scripture has been memorized, studied, taught, and preached more than any other single portion of the Bible. 

20210905 - Jesus is Our Rock

We can all acknowledge that there are many beautiful and wonderful things about life. Yet, at the same time, we experience all kinds of situations and circumstances that are quite difficult. Things like loss, betrayal, confusion, disagreement and disappointment which provide opportunities to be hurt, wounded and offended. In those moments, whether we know it or not, we will make decisions to soften our hearts toward God or harden them. This is why the Bible warns us NOT to harden our hearts – because so much is at stake. As we look at our passage today, my hope is to provide a path of freedom out of or away from a hard heart so we can stay open and useful to the purposes of God in these difficult times.

I can imagine that many of us are exhausted with this season of trying to figure out life in COVID. I don’t think I am wrong in assuming that most of us thought that this season would either go away or subside. However, that simply is not the case. While we don’t hold the knowledge of the future of this virus, we do have clear instructions from the Word of God on how we should respond as followers of Jesus. I pray that this message will encourage and equip you to respond to what you are facing in these difficult times.
