Jesus feeds the 5,000. A familiar and much loved story. Jesus now performs His greatest miracle at the pinnacle of His popularity. Yet Jesus will use this as an opportunity to teach His disciples. His great lesson is to serve people before serving yourself. For God will always supply the ministers' needs. It is also a passage declaring the deity of Christ, yet again. A wonderful account calling us to come, trust, and obey. We see Jesus' compassion and it's an enlightening model for ministry.

Give Them Something to Eat

Peter gives three key results attached to the repentance and return of Israel-back to God. The first is the blotting out of sin but the second and third are often overlooked by-readers and students. In some way or another it will usher in a time of refreshing of all things,-which is very expansive- and it will bring about the return of Jesus Christ. The focus of this-sermon are those last two results were we are able to examine the Scripture and walk away with a-glimpse into the mysterious and marvelous plan of salvation God has for us.

The Mystery of God's Saving Plan

Sin brings so much destruction within creation, especially in the human-heart. The result is so much shame and regret that cannot be shaken and cannot be left behind.-Like unreasoning animals so many find themselves in a cycle of destruction that is both hated-and loved at the same time. Is there a way out- Is there hope- Can a person find both a peace of-mind and a cleanness of soul- This sermon seeks to point us to that hope that is bound up in-Jesus Christ.

Infinite Value of Repentance

Jesus sends out His disciples on their first mission. His goal is to teach them important lessons that will serve them well for a lifetime of ministry. The focus of Jesus' desire is for them to learn true dependency on Him. Everything they may need for faithfulness, both spiritually and physically, Jesus will provide. Their only job is to be faithful.

Lessons For Ministry

Jesus calls His disciples together and sends them on their first mission. This is their internship, and they are given tremendous power and authority to extend the ministry of Jesus in Galilee. This sermon explores the uniqueness of their calling as the twelve. This sermon also explores hermeneutical approaches to rightly understanding the nature of how the Gospels apply to the church, along with an introduction to the nature of miracles and healing. Uniquely Called

Peter preaches his second recorded sermon after Pentecost to a crowd of-Jews at the Temple. His message has little to do with the man he just healed- but everything to do-with Jesus Christ, in whose name Peter healed the man. In this message Peter not only is bold-and confronts the people with their guilt before God, but he invokes several titles from the Old-Testament that he attaches to Jesus.

Jesus and His Titles

In the final section of Amos, the prophet gives an incredible word of hope to the Israelites in the throes of judgment. While the nation must still face days of agony ahead-he reminds them that far better days lay ahead for the nation, and that God is faithful to fulfill every single one of His promises. Though the Northern Kingdom shall fall and never rise again, God promises to restore His people once again and reunite them under the banner of Christ.

The Restoration of Israel

What is the response of Peter as he sees a crowd forming around him due to the healing of a lame man- It is a clarion call to repent of their sins, especially of rejecting Jesus as Messiah and to turn to Him for salvation. Not only salvation of the individual but of the nation. But this required boldness and boldness is the topic of this sermon because it is what is needed all the more in the days in which we live.

Boldness for His Name

Luke continues to build His case that Jesus is the fullness of God by displaying His power over disease and death. This chapter finishes with a dynamic and dramatic story, revealing not only Who Jesus is, but how we must come to Him. We are given two wonderful models of faith in the midst of fear, and how fear can serve faith. Unlike the previous two passages, this one shows how fear should drive us toward Christ, specifically, when we begin to rightly understand Who he is.

We come to a new section of Acts and we start it off with a extraordinary miracle performed by Peter with an air of casualness that belies its power. But why was this man wonderfully healed- What is the purpose- Is there something more than simply doing good to this man- This is what we will see in this sermon.

Apostolic Authority in Action

Jesus travels to an obscure town to raise a widows only son from the dead. It is a story in which Jesus reveals that He is God by displaying His power over death. In this passage we see His providence, His power, and purpose for why He does what He does. We also see the humanity of Jesus, as His compassion moves Him to care for this women.The call of the passage is trust in the power of Jesus' saving Word. For in Jesus Christ, God has visited the dead sinner-

When Life Meets Death

Jesus encounters a prostitute in a Pharisee's home. While Simon the Pharisee stands in judgment of Jesus, the woman serves Jesus from an overflow of gratitude.It is a wonderful account that Luke uses to illustrate the separation between the self-righteous and those who understand their sin. It is an emotive way to end this important section, but the take-away is clear-- the deeper you understand your forgiveness, the deeper your love for Christ. This is a helpful account for Christians who have grown cold in their walk. It is a call to go back and remember the significance of the debt you owed.

When Sinner's Transform

Jesus demonstrates His power over the demonic realm. This passage shows there is no true battle going on between Jesus and the forces of darkness. Rather, they all bow to His Word. It's a wonderful story in which Jesus frees a gentile man from the oppressive evil powers who have been torturing him for a long time. The account shows just how far Jesus is willing to go to save the sinner. It also shows there is no one who is too unclean for his cleansing work. The application of the passage is to observe what this man becomes -- a missionary to his own people. He is saved by Jesus, but then left in his own city to declare the great things that Jesus has done for him.

From Maniacal to Missional

Brief Overview- This famous account of Jesus calming the storm begins an important section in Luke. It kicks off a series of four passages in which Luke desires to reveal certain truths about Jesus. This precious, but often misapplied, account reveals Jesus' sovereign power and authority over creation. It is a clear declaration that Jesus is Lord and God. The personal application shows how it is not wrong for Christians to fear in times of trial, or even cry out to God. That is right and proper. However, the question Luke wants to address is how will a person come to God. Will they cry out in fear and faith, or will they cry out in fear only- That is the critical difference. For Luke, the only right way to come is in belief. However, the Christian's belief in times of trial will be forged from their understanding of Jesus as the sovereign Lord and God over every circumstance and event in life.

When Panic Meets Power

Amos now comes to the final word of judgment to be given and it is perhaps the most severe word because the Lord Himself tells the Israelites they have nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide. They cannot avoid judgment. The reason they cannot avoid God's wrath is rather simple. He sees all things, He controls all things, and He reveals all things for what they truly are, which inevitably means they are only fooling themselves. Make no mistake- the same God who judged Israel shall stand as Judge on the Last Day. The same will be said for those who are not in Christ and His penetrating gaze is upon them- you have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
