On this episode it's all about "Music Education".  I asked my good friends, and bandmates in Highway Natives to talk shop about their musical education.  Matt Drummey attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.  While Brandon Moore attended Full Sail University down in FL.  We mostly cut up, but there is some gold nuggets in here for anyone interested in attending school for music.

Born and raised in The Golden State, Nick Bearden is known for playing bass in the Folk-Rock band, Jamestown Revival.  When the band had planned an upcoming tour across the country years ago, Nick had the urge to relocate to Nashville and figured why not use his gear to backline the tour to get it there! On this episode, Nick talks about how his plan worked out for the tour and his move, how he almost took a different path away from music, and he also gives some insightful tips to the realities of what it takes to be a successful full-time musician.

Adam Tanaka started Life and Limb Printing Company out of his kitchen.  Yes, his kitchen.  His first order of shirts, which came from one cold call after he was given an ultimatum to leave his current job or stop working towards his passion; landed him an order of 200 shirts to be delivered within a week.  Ten years later, he's running a 4,000sq foot printing facility, and that client is still working with him. They also just so happen to be arguably one of the biggest breweries in Nashville today.

Tony Aichele is a multi-instrumentalist based here in Nashville, TN who Is currently on the road playing pedal steel and dobro In Grammy winning, Country artist Travis Tritt's band.  Born and raised In New Jersey, Tony had Interests In all styles of music, eventually being drawn to Bluegrass and Roots Instruments.  A love for those Instruments and the styles of music that accompany them, Is eventually what lead him to Music City and where he Is now In his career.

Hubert Payne is a professional drummer in Nashville, Tennessee mainly playing for the band “Little Big Town.” They’re a country music group with over 2.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and their most popular song reaching over 100 million streams. Little Big Town has won four Grammy Awards, nine CMA awards, eight ACM awards, an Emmy award and several others, including a CMT Artist of the Year award in 2015 and 2018. In 2015, they had the most downloaded country song of the year, and became the first band to hold a residency at the famed Ryman Auditorium throughout 2016 and 2017.I was fortunate enough to meet Hubert back in 2016 through a mutual friend, as a reference to play on some of my personal music. Through that single session we formed a relationship that is near and dear to me, and have worked together on several projects since. Despite the level of his and his peer’s success, he still approaches life and music with genuine humility, integrity and passion. I personally think these are some of the biggest contributing factors to his ability of achieving all that he has. I’ve invited him in to give insight on his journey and what it took to pave his path.
