Getting in sync with the earth means to dissolve the boundaries and barriers with the other things that differentiate us from fawn and flora. That makes life confusing. We feel more connected with life when we are one with ourself, but with the earth too. Dove season is coming up and it breaks Bernadette's heart. Autumn says that the separation between us and animal life promotes our ego. Unfortunately, ego is not the way to find your happiness. Ego is diversion. Autumn and Bernadette feel sorry for the people that feel the need to kill doves, but at the same time, we have to be mindful of our own situations. We must let others find their own path, as hard as it may be. Consciousness The benefits of simply saying "om" are vibrational frequencies. One of the benefits of chanting the word "om," is that just chanting"om" is the same frequency that the earth and the trees gives off. "Om" or "Aum" is a sacred sound and a spiritual symbol in Indian religions. It signifies the essence of the ultimate reality, consciousness. When you start vibrating at the same frequencies as the things around you, it allows your life to have less roadblocks. This isn't just woo woo, science has backed this up. Being one with nature makes days to day decisions a little bit easier. It your mind is a mess, your body is a mess. It is all connected. There are simply things that you can do to feel closet to the earth. Go barefoot more often! Autumn says being barefoot is almost like being stuck to the earth. Act like your walking on gum. Feel the energy of the earth pulling you down. Another one is to eat more root vegetables and vegetables in their natural and raw state. Leave some of the earths nutrients on your food, but still get the yuck off. Bernadette says to sun gaze! Sun-gazing is something that Autumn was into for awhile. Sun-gazing has even been studied by NASA! If you simply accept the beliefs that we are fueled by the sun, you can take advantage of the free medicine in the sky! Shawn Wells Shawn Wells, MPH, LDN, RD, CISSN, FISSN is an expert in the fields of performance nutrition, longevity, fitness and supplementation. He earned his master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he studied nutritional biochemistry with a minor in exercise science. Shawn is a Registered Dietitian with a decade of experience as a Chief Clinical Dietitian in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. He is also a Certified Sports Nutritionist and has worked with celebrity clients and professional athletes. Sugar We as Americans consume 160 pounds of sugar annually! That’s a full human weight's worth of sugar! Sugar is marketed to children, young adults, and it lies in all kinds of food and drink. We are absolutely addicted to sugar! Physiologically we can go through withdrawals just like in heroin or alcohol. No fear though, addiction to sugar can be reversed! Use exercise as a way to earn a sugary treat. Make a connection between working out and satiating treats! By doing this, we create a positive new neural-pathway in our brain! Royal honey is one of Shawn’s favorite supplements. Royal honey is the honey that is only meant for the Queen Bee, because it contains a rich source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are not always bad! Try and get your carbohydrates from supplements like royal honey instead of sugar rich carbs like white bread. There are studies that show when we consume a sweet beverage, people consume 300-500 calories more in their meal. That’s calories in addition to the calories in your drink! Sugar drives consumption. Added flavors are engineered to make us overeat. Instead of finishing the whole fancy “sweet heat” almond bag, have a handful of raw almonds.  Saccharine is the worst! For so long, Bernadette and many others were adding the little pink packet to our unsweetened tea and thinking we were okay! Monk fruit and stevia are the two best non sugar sweeteners on the market. The sweeteners ending in “OL” can hurt your gut microbiome and spike your blood sugar. Stick to monk fruit and stevia. Be aware that monk fruit and stevia is being so engineered that you are losing your basic compounds. Workers in factory farms are dying of the virus in record numbers and people are starting to take notice. Another reason veganism is going mainstream is the help from celebrities such as Beyonce and Billie Eilish. Oprah is launching a virtual wellness tour, including "Meatless Mondays". Reyes goes on to say that plant-based eating has everything we need, protein, vitamins, fats, etc. If you don’t follow a plant-based lifestyle, consider trying it for one day a week. Opening Gyms After Quarantine Cody Myler talks about gyms reopening in Texas as restrictions are lifted. Myler owns NXT Rep Fitness, and he says it’s been a slow burn opening, but going well so far. We ask what's changed for gyms under the new rules. Myler lists a few examples, such as gloves are mandatory, but masks aren’t.  The showers and dressing rooms are off limits, but bathrooms are available. For those heading back to the gym for the first time, he recommends bringing water, hand sanitizer, clean gloves and towels. Also, come dressed to work out and shower at home before and after your workout. Myler's tip for those coming back; take it easy on your first workout. He's seen more than a few push hard the first day and suffer consequences later. Just be prepared for some soreness afterwards.
