Your first project in the design course will be to select a design subject that will be presented in the classroom with a group of 4 to 5 fellow students. Here you will find information about the topics that you can choose from and information for preparing your presentation. It also contains a document that your team will have to complete and bring with you in our first real class room. The various design presentation will allow you to obtain a background in design history and actual design themes. During the classes, your professor will link these topics with one another and place them in their historical context.

Knowledge of cultural styling movements is indispensable for someone who likes to know more about product design. It is important to have knowledge and a feeling about what happened with previous artistic movements. Why did they become popular and why did they disappear? These preferences for aesthetics have a life-cycle. Knowing the past might help to foresee which style might last and which one is in a dangereous position of disappearing.

This subject in design is very actual and just great! Specific international conferences are organised on "design & emotion" by the Design and Emotion society and on "communicative product design" by the Nordcode network. For you this subject is important because by analysing the various messages, symbols and aesthetics in a product's design you can identify as a marketing executive what the product should express. You can also benchmark the product's expressions with those of competing products. This can be a valuable input from marketing into the product creation process, allowing the creation of successful products.

This module has two objectives. Objective one is to analyse as a marketing executive which messages in the packaging will positively differentiate it from competitors. Objective two is to create the packaging as a product design team and therefore to become aware of the good (and bad) moments in the creative process. 03 - The «message in the bottle» project

Design can have a very positive influence on company performance. Several examples such as Swatch watches, the iMac and a Signal toothbrush are therefore presented. You will also discover the two main projects in this course: the design presentation and the message in the bottle project. This introduction aims to get your (passioned) interest for design and to show you the positive impact it can have on company performance.

Companies communicate with their public through a collection of visual expressions, like the product, the logo, signs and its name. In order to have the largest impact and to gain in competitivity, this collection of visual expressions has to be of high quality and above all coherent. In this design course we will concentrate on product and packaging design. We will study these topics from the viewpoint of a business student by analysing the following themes : Understanding the value of design for a company. Understanding the design creation process and the basics of design management.
