WrEeBmEiRxN (Webern Remix) is an integrated hardware and software performance environment designed for the interactive musical exploration of audio excerpts from Anton Webernâ€™s Five Pieces for String Quartet, op. 5, Movement I. The piece incorporates a Nintendo Wiimote controller that serves as a performance interface for the real-time manipulation audio samples. These samples are accessed via Bluetooth from a software program on a laptop computer. The resultant sounds can be experienced in either a stereo or quadraphonic speaker configuration. Performers can thus use the gestural potential of the Wiimote to create a unique sonic world similar to the way a string player uses a bow to create a variety of unique sounds on their instrument. Because WrEeBmEiRxN incorporates the unique features of a musical instrument, installation art and remix composition, the piece could potentially be presented in a variety of performance spaces and contexts.
